Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 1472

She stood rooted to the spot for about twenty minutes, the cars and their shadows all but vanished, leaving her feeling stiff all over.

It was only when a hand landed on her shoulder and gave it a reassuring pat that she snapped out of it. It was Quentin.

"What's up?" he asked.

Maja blinked back to reality. "Didn't I ask you to wait inside?"

"You are absent for so long, so I thought I'd check on you."

Maja walked back into the room and grabbed a baseball cap, placing it firmly on her head.

"Quentin, I've got to step out for a bit. Can you keep an eye on Patric for me? He's running a high fever, not in his right mind, and can't take care of himself. I'd really appreciate it if you could look after him for a while."

"When will you be back?"

"I don't know."

A frown creased Maja's brow. She had to find out who those people were, and if the man they had taken was indeed Ian.

If it was, she had to save him.

It meant going undercover.

A shadow passed over Quentin's eyes. Those people from Inner Island were up to something, causing a ruckus in Middle Island in the dead of night.

If Maja recklessly followed them, and something happened to her, who would he turn to for that jellyfish seal?

So he couldn't let Maja go off on a suicide mission.

"Maja, those were Inner Island people."

"How do you know?"

"License plates. Outer Island, Middle Island, Inner Island, they all have different plates. The power dynamics in Inner Island are complex, controlled by a few families, and they're the only ones who can carry guns. If you mess with them, you might not make it back alive."

"I'll be careful, Quentin. Please take care of Patric."

It felt a bit shameless to dump this on him, but Patric truly needed someone.

Quentin's brow furrowed, silently cursing the people who had stirred up trouble tonight. His contacts hadn't yet provided clear intel, and he needed to keep Maja here.

But Maja, already caught up in matters concerning Ian and suspecting that he might have been misled, was anything but calm.
