Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 1490

"I'll make it back alive."

With those words, Ian directed his companions to find a safe and secluded spot, leaving a few to watch over Oliver.

Oliver sat there; as the tension got the better of him, he couldn't help but blurt out a warning:

"Look, there's this guy named Robin Bradshaw, who is from the Bradshaw clan over on Inner Island. We're on good terms, so if you run into any trouble you can't handle, maybe he can throw you a bone. But let me tell you straight, you've been to Inner Island. You know those families are nothing but a bunch of self-serving sharks. You're bound to hit a wall of trouble there. And your girl, if she's just average, maybe she'll slide under the radar. But if she's a knockout? They won't let her be, trust me."

Ian's gaze turned icy, sending Oliver stumbling a few steps back in fear.

"What are you glaring at me for? You know the drill. The social ladder's been set in stone for ages. Those big family folks do as they please, and no one bats an eye. They're law unto themselves. To them, any woman with a hint of beauty's just a potential mistress."

Harsh as it was, Oliver was merely stating the bitter truth.

For centuries on Forbidden Island, wealth had stayed in the hands of the same few, with no way for the common folk to climb the ranks.

The powers that be wouldn't have it any other way. After all, they needed these people to keep the island running, even if it meant selling their souls.

Ian loaded his gun with a steady stream of bullets.

Oliver continued his grim briefing, "That's why those elites panicked when you showed up on Inner Island last time. They feared that you'd cut into their resources. No one's rattled their cages like this in a hundred years. Whether it's your wealth, your skills, or whatever else, you've got something that makes the common folk want to rally behind you. If you amass a following, you're basically founding a new dynasty, and that means slicing up the pie."

Those arrogant big shots wouldn't stand for it.

Ian gazed down at his gun, contemplating his next move. He had to make a trip to Inner Island – that much was clear.

After getting into the car, Oliver looked up at the sky, saying, "Ian, I'll wait for you here. If you make it back, maybe I can finally leave this godforsaken island."

Ian nodded and rolled up the car window without a moment's hesitation.

The most vexing part about Forbidden Island was the communication blackout. Otherwise, he'd have had his people here by now.

The driver in the front seat couldn't help but speak up.

"Mr. Raymond, those who attacked the Porter family last night are powerful, and there were too many choppers in the sky. Looks like a storm's brewing over Forbidden Island."
