Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 1527

Mia wasn't exactly known for her sharp wit; she had a short fuse, especially when provoked. The snide remarks from a clique of mean girls only fueled her rage as she grabbed Zoey by the hair, intent on slamming her head against the wall.

But, as if scripted by some cosmic playwright, someone chose that moment to knock on the restroom door.

It was always the same. Just when she was getting her sadistic kicks, someone would interrupt her fun in the ladies' room.

Mia rolled her eyes and let go of Zoey's hair.

"You got lucky this time," she hissed. "And let me tell you something, sweetie, stop dreaming about my brother. He's way out of your league."

With that, Mia flipped her hair disdainfully and glanced at her posse.

"Let's go."

"Mia, we're just gonna let her off, just like that?" one of the girls whined.

"People are coming. If word gets out, it won't look good for us," Mia replied curtly.

After all, Zoey was representing Star Movie Group, a company with some clout in the industry. If it got out that Mia and her crew were bullying Zoey, there'd be hell to pay.

The Haskins family might help Mia squash the bad press, but she worried about her brother taking an interest in Zoey again, and that could lead to a whole other set of problems.

Better to keep it low-key, she thought, dragging Zoey to the restroom whenever the mood struck and tormenting her until she couldn’t take it anymore and left Greenfield for good.

A smug smile spread across Mia's face at the thought. Her future sister-in-law would be one of the rich young ladies, not someone like Zoey.

Zoey, meanwhile, had slipped into a stall the moment they'd opened the door. She expertly touched up her makeup and changed her outfit, always carrying a spare dress in her bag to conceal any signs of the ordeal she'd been through.

She meticulously wiped the stains from her neck with tissues, tossed the ruined dress in the trash, and pulled out a compact mirror to reapply her makeup. Only when she was sure no one could tell what had happened did she step back out.

But she froze upon seeing the man leaning against the wall, smoking a cigarette. It was Fitch.
