Phil is not like Philip.
Before he turned five, Phil had been confined within the research base, being an object of study among cold machines and emotionless gadgets. He watched the scientists in their crisp lab coats through the glass, naively considering them all to be his parents.
Before the age of five, Phil knew nothing, not even what the blue sky was, or what a rustle of green leaves in the breeze felt like.
It wasn't until he was sent out to interact with Philip that he stepped outside for the first time.
From infancy, both boys received hormonal injections, endowing them with intellects far surpassing their mere five years.
It was probably Phil's wide-eyed wonder and insatiable curiosity about the world that tugged at Philip's heartstrings. Yet, when Phil asked to return to the base with him, Philip didn't immediately agree. Instead, he said, "I'll have to see what Mrs. Abbott thinks."
Having spent years in the organization, Philip regarded Cynthia, known as Mrs. Abbott, as his mother. But as he wrestled with the decision to confide in Cynthia about Phil, he overheard her conversation with the Grand Elder.
"Philip's intelligence exceeds that of other children, but he seems to have a cold nature. Such individuals may lack community pride and prove challenging to lead. He's not suitable as a leader."
"Let's exclude Philip for now, Grand Elder. In truth, I already have someone else in mind for the role."
But she didn't mention that this “someone” was her own daughter.
Philip's enthusiasm was extinguished like a flame doused by her words.
He knew Cynthia held the reins of power in BK, revered as the Holy Daughter. Everyone must unconditionally obey her words. Her disapproval spelled a future devoid of recognition or advancement within the organization.
"Grand Elder, keep an eye on Philip. He's killed a lot of small animals. There's a bloodthirstiness in his genes, making it hard for him to make friends. We should guide him onto the right path."
Despite her warning, the Grand Elder didn't take her seriously, for Philip was, after all, only a five-year-old child.
Cynthia didn’t know that Philip had heard everything. As she turned to leave, she ran into the very child she had been discussing.
"K?"
She said, ruffling his hair with a gentle hand. "What are you doing here?"
A shadow crossed Philip's gaze. He had believed Cynthia was different, unafraid of him. But she was just like the others.
She had given him a code name, K. He had thought he could be her successor.
He hadn't realized she had never truly regarded him highly.
"Mrs. Abbott, who is it that you're most satisfied with?" he asked.

Is author playing with our emotions?...
Why are there no updates yet, Author. We've all been waitibg for quite a while now. Please, update soon, Author. Thanks....
Author, my thoughts on the book. When are You going to write on Cornelia and Omar Casson's romance? You made no mention, describing in detail how Maja and Uan's white wedding ceremony went. Also, you didn't write on Carol's baby delivery. What about Tyler's romance. Is there closure on Phelps Herrington being truly certified dead, so also his twin brother? Dylan's research institute "little girl", what became of her and Dylan's romance? Beck's blind dates, what were the results, is he married now, so also Dylan to his "little girl"? Why hasn't Ian's father- Steven come forward to meet Maja's parents as the in-laws meeting each other especially with his supposed past with Lillian; Maja's mother. I hope I won't remain curious for too long on the aforementioned issues, Author. Thanks for doing a good job on Zoey and Fitch's romance, though. Kudos....
