Felix swept Carol off her feet, cradling her sideways as he strode into the house.
Her cheeks burned with a flush, buried in his embrace.
Darkness enveloped her once more as he blindfolded her with an eye mask.
"Felix?"
She heard the sounds of his departure, the splashing of water, and the unmistakable gulp of swallowing.
"What are you eating?"
"Vitamins."
His voice was nonchalant as he glanced briefly at his crotch and headed into the room.
Carol remained still, and as he moved over her, she wrapped her arms around his neck.
After the love-making, she lay panting in his arms.
Felix rolled off the bed, not lingering, and went to reheat the dinner that had gone cold.
Carol felt genuinely hungry by then, and after a shower, she walked out to the dining table, her limbs weak.
The food was ready and warm.
Just as Felix was about to sit down, his phone rang.
It was the hospital, perhaps Listina had regained her ability to speak.
His eyelashes fluttered, and he leaned down to press a kiss on Carol's forehead.
"I've got to step out for a bit, honey. Start without me."
Carol felt vulnerable and craved company, especially from her boyfriend.
But she had already disrupted his work enough, so she nodded obediently.
"Okay."
Felix left swiftly, and for a moment Carol felt as if he was relieved to go.
But the sight of the food in front of her dispelled her doubts.
She must be overthinking it.
She ate her meal in peace and then curled up on the couch, falling into a deep sleep.
Waking in the middle of the night, Felix still hadn't returned.
She checked her phone – it was three in the morning. Had he gone back to his place?
Just as she was about to call him, her phone chimed with an incoming call.
Felix's voice was hoarse.
"Run all you want, sweetheart. We let you go once, not this time."
Carol fought back desperately, her nails breaking. Just as she felt her life might be over, the car jerked violently – a taxi had crashed into them.
The thugs were startled; one was nearly hit as he stood outside.
As Carol regained her senses, she kicked the man away and scrambled out of the car.
Felix sat in the taxi's passenger seat, now commandeering the wheel, his expression dark.
The driver, beside himself with shock, was about to curse out loud when Felix stepped out.
The thugs shrank back at the sight of him.
They thought he wasn't coming back tonight.
One thug took a heavy kick to the head, his senses swimming as he spat out blood.
Felix turned to the other standing thug, who yelped in terror.
"Felix, what are you doing? Remember what happened last time!"
Before he could finish, Felix delivered a brutal kick to his stomach.
The man flew back a meter, coughed up blood, and passed out.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
When will get update?...
What is wrong that the author has not updated this novel in over a month or is there somewhere else that I can continue reading the novel from chapter 1951 upwards? Do tell, please. Thanks....
