Cheeks flushed with the sting of her slap, Felix bore the imprint of her hand - five red marks.
Regret flickered across her face; never before had she struck him with such force. But the rage simmering in her chest refused to dissipate, and tears welled in her eyes.
“I held on, Felix! Now you're dumping me? What happened to our promises? What about everything you assured me of before?”
He dabbed at the corner of his mouth, his expression calm.
“Promises? Oh, that was just lip service, Carol. Besides, you can be pretty dramatic yourself.”
Her hand connected with his face again, harder this time, swelling his cheek. It was Carol doing the hitting, but it was as if she was the one who couldn't see clearly, her vision fogged with unshed tears that began to fall.
Felix touched his reddening face, his voice even more detached, “Let's just end it here.”
He turned to leave, but Carol's arms wrapped around him from behind.
“Don't break up with me. Where did I go wrong? If you don't tell me, how can I know? Are you dumping me because I can't cook? I can learn, Felix. I don't want us to end.”
Her grip was tight, painfully so, but the real pain seemed to stem from somewhere deeper within him.
Felix's lips pressed into a thin line, the recent text from Abner causing a ripple in his otherwise placid demeanor. But it quickly settled, returning to the stillness of an unfathomable ocean.
Carol mistook his silence for capitulation and was about to soften her words, to apologize, when she felt his hand on hers. With a forceful twist, he pried her fingers loose.
Carol was already short-fused, her anger flaring anew.
“Oh, I see how it is, Felix. You think you're such a catch, huh? Fine, go then! We're done! Let me tell you, I can find someone better in a heartbeat, but you'll never find anyone as amazing as me again!”
She shoved him away and stormed into her bedroom, slamming the door so hard the walls seemed to shake.
Outside the bedroom, Felix didn't hesitate before leaving. Behind the door, Carol listened intently for any sign of his return, but there was only silence. No footsteps.
She had assumed he would come crawling back soon enough. When they had first gotten together, she had endured some grievances for his sake, but as time went on, Felix had been attentive, catering to her every whim, and they had rarely argued. And now, she had slapped him, not once but twice.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
When will get update?...
