He must have misheard.
Driving back to the office, he pulled into the parking lot and before he could stop himself, he whipped out his phone.
Not a single new message.
The screen still showed his last question to Carol—Had a good lunch?
Scrolling up, he found most of the conversation was him asking, with hardly a reply from Carol.
Standing in the biting cold, he couldn't resist scrolling further back, back to old conversations that now felt like knives.
[Felix, saw this crazy cloud on my way home, doesn't it look like a whale?]
[LOL, you gotta see this cat, looks just like a pooch. How can it be so chubby?]
[Caught a couple fighting on the street. Stood there so long my legs went numb, eavesdropping for the juicy details—it seemed the guy cheated.]
[Got docked 20 bucks by the manager today, I'm fuming!!]
[Felix, you off work yet? How long till you get here? It's pouring, and I'm without an umbrella.]
[Some drunk customer threw a fit at the bar, and started swinging a stool around. And yes, I got fined again!!]
Felix scrolled on like he was torturing himself.
The cigarette between his fingers was almost at its end; it seared his skin before he snapped to his senses and flicked it away.
He lit another and sent off a new message.
[Nearly midnight.]
Maybe she'd forgotten what day it was. He felt the need to remind her.
Carol, who had already made it home, was now lost in some mobile game, ignoring the ping of the new message.
She played it until she was too drowsy to continue, then drifted off right there.
Back at the office, Felix worked overtime until 2 a.m., but his phone remained silent.
The last message that buzzed in was an automated birthday greeting from the bank.
Shutting his laptop with a sigh, he was ready to leave, but then a new email popped up.
It was about a sudden crisis at the branch office. He sank back into his chair, and worked until dawn.
Afterwards, he showered in the break room, donned a fresh suit, and continued working until 6 p.m.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
When will get update?...
What is wrong that the author has not updated this novel in over a month or is there somewhere else that I can continue reading the novel from chapter 1951 upwards? Do tell, please. Thanks....
