After Cornelia and Elvis had left, Maja grabbed Carol's hand with an urgency that brooked no delay.
"Spill it, what's up?"
Carol shook her head, her gaze drifting to the fruit bowl on the coffee table. "Just wanted to check on you."
"You drove here yourself?"
"Yep."
Carol found herself struggling to broach the subject of Felix.
Back when Maja was still playing cat and mouse with Ian, she always raved about how wonderful Felix was. But in the end, she was left with egg on her face.
Now, it seemed she couldn't bring herself to mention Felix to anyone.
The whole social circle was waiting to see her fall flat on her face again – and they had already had a good chuckle once before.
Carol forced a smile, then heard Maja's voice cut through the tension. "Felix isn't still on his knees at home, is he?"
"How did you know?"
"He showed up out of the blue at Greenfield Gardens yesterday. Dropped to his knees with a thud in front of me, crying and begging. I thought I was watching a soap opera."
A situation that was suffocatingly awkward was suddenly turned on its head by Maja's flippancy, and Carol felt an unexpected urge to laugh.
The weight on her shoulders seemed to lift a little.
Maja motioned to a servant to prepare some fruit.
Ian came downstairs, announcing he had a quick meeting to attend.
Glancing at the wall clock, he triple-checked, "I'll be home by six in the evening."
While stepping into his shoes at the entryway, he continued to reel off reminders. "Remember to take your medication. I've scheduled a check-up with the doctor for tomorrow at noon. And that stroller you wanted? It should be air-shipped here by this afternoon. As for those flowers you asked for, they have such a short bloom time – just three days – so they won't be fresh by the time they get here."
After slipping on his shoes and opening the door, he suddenly noticed Carol. "Oh, when did Carol get here?"
Carol, who had been feeling a bit down, was now completely speechless.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
When will get update?...
What is wrong that the author has not updated this novel in over a month or is there somewhere else that I can continue reading the novel from chapter 1951 upwards? Do tell, please. Thanks....
