Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 1875

Zoey was touched once again, and she felt the urge to whip up something in the kitchen, but Miranda stopped her in her tracks.

So she settled for helping out by watering the plants.

"Mom, is Dad meeting with that investor everyone's been talking about lately?" Zoey asked.

"Yes, he's quite the big shot over in Greenfield. Your father wouldn't have been called over if it wasn't important. I'm a bit worried about him, though. He's straightforward, a bit of a lone wolf, doesn't know how to schmooze. Back in the day, he was on covert operations and never really got the hang of mingling. Over in Greenfield, he always got the short end of the stick from his peers. If he slips up at this kind of event, he might just get chewed out."

"Don't worry, Mom, it'll be fine. If this investor is really from high society, I'm sure he'll be understanding."

Miranda sighed and patted her on the shoulder.

"Let's drop it. Remember the koi your dad brought home last time? I have no idea where he got it from. He doesn't seem to get that you can't just catch a koi in a river. Zoey, go feed it, will you? We don't want it dying on us and have your dad on our case."

Zoey chuckled to herself; she was no longer a little girl who believed koi were caught in rivers. Curtis was just trying to charm her.

"Got it, I'll feed it right now."

Miranda put down her watering can. "I'll go start on dinner. You can watch some TV after feeding the fish."

As Miranda approached the house, her cell phone lit up. It was Rachel, reaching out for the first time in four years.

[How's Zoey doing?]

After a moment's thought, Miranda sent a reply.

[She's doing well, always smiling. Let's not keep in touch anymore. She's a vigilant girl, and neither Curtis nor I want to delve into her past. She's been our daughter since four years ago.]
