She quickly pleaded on Athena’s behalf.
“Boss, Athena didn’t mean it. Give her another chance, please. This script is fantastic, and she has a real shot at becoming a hit, like Anna did. She'll make money for the company.”
Upon hearing this, Anna didn’t hesitate. She stood up and slapped Doris.
“Who does she think she is, comparing herself to me?! Doris, you must be out of your mind. You should switch to another artist before it’s too late. Sticking with someone like Athena will only drag you down. The deeper you get, the harder it’ll be for anyone to want to work with you.”
Agents live off their artists’ success—the more popular the artist, the more they earn.
But Doris’s artist, Athena, had never really taken off. Doris was capable, but Athena was holding her back.
Despite the slap, Doris didn’t dare say anything and only looked towards Jacob.
However, Jacob was always partial to Anna and now found Doris annoying.
“Just get out, Doris. I’ll assign you a new artist. Don’t disappoint me again. Even if you jump ship to another company, you won’t get the same base pay. Think about it—you’re getting a share of the profits here.”
That’s why Doris couldn’t leave WAJA Media.
She looked at Athena with a heavy heart. They weren’t just agent and artist—they were friends.
But now, no one could save Athena. The boss had his eyes on her and wouldn’t stop until he got what he wanted.
Athena didn’t look at Doris. Her mind was elsewhere, planning what kind of stew she should make to win over Tyler.
Until a contract landed next to her—it was the one she’d signed with WAJA Media. With two years left on the contract, getting shelved now would be a disaster.
The entertainment world moves fast. If she was benched for two years, by the time she returned, her fans would have moved on, and no one would be waiting for her.
“Athena, if you’re shelved for two years, you’ll lose everything. Like I said, if you just get in bed and make it worth my while, I can forget about this.”
Anna was sitting right beside him when he said this.
But she didn’t stop him. Everyone knew about Jacob’s preferences in bed. If Athena agreed, she’d probably leave half-dead, satisfying Anna’s desire for revenge for that slap.
Anna’s eyes were full of glee, convinced that Athena was doomed tonight.
Jacob thought so too. Nobody wanted to be benched for two years.
But Athena looked up, her eyes calm.
“Okay, go ahead and shelve me.”
Her tone was so calm it was as if she were commenting on the weather.
Jacob was incredulous, and when he finally processed what she said, he was furious.
“Are you playing games with me?”

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
