lan Raymond didn’t respond and just kept his head down, fiddling with his cufflinks. 

Those silver–blue cufflinks were a gift from Carlene Shepard. 

Maja Pennyfeather heard the footsteps on the stairs and saw Carlene appear at the side, speaking softly. 

“lan, come upstairs with me; I’m really worried.” 

Having said that, Carlene finally noticed Maja, and her eyes immediately sharpened. 

“What are you doing here?”

“Ms. Penny, please go upstairs. The surgery is expected to take forty minutes.”

Carlene chuckled,”Ms. Penny, did you just come from home?” 

Maja immediately became alert, “Yes.” 

“I heard you got married; I couldn’t believe it. But it seems like you and your husband are doing quite well. Is the hickey on your neck from your husband?”
