lan rubbed his temples, looking instead fed up. 

“You called me here just for this?” 

“About Eric’s secret mission. He’s been dead for years, but people are still poking around in his past, including your dad. Your dad who hasn’t been home in ages. I heard he’s also investigating your brother’s past. He must’ve left something significant behind, maybe with his girlfriend. She might not even realize how important it is.” 

lan fell silent. Dressed in a sharp suit, he exuded an aura of icy fierceness. 

“lan, maybe you should consider what kind of girl Eric would’ve liked. We can start digging in Greenfield. That might speed things up.” 

Ian headed for the door. Fitch saw his disinterest in a mere glance. 

“That file might reveal why Eric died.” 

lan stiffened, lips pressed into a thin line. 

1 checked. He didn’t have a girlfriend.” 

“So, I plan to have someone scan these drafts. He was barely twenty at the time. If he were in love, it would’ve been a distraction.” 

lan left him with one sentence. 

“Let me know when you have something.” 

With that, he took off. 

Fitch ordered someone to sift through all the drafts in the two rooms. Given time, they’d surely find a female name linked to Eric. Fitch was so hell–bent on finding this thing because the Haskins family received a mysterious order. 

Besides, Eric’s death was sudden. 

Once in his car, lan gripped the steering wheel and took off. 

As he drove past an intersection, he noticed a car parked next to his.. 

Both cars were waiting for the traffic light. The other car’s window was half–open, revealing Maja’s face. 

lan raised an eyebrow, rolled down his window, and honked twice. 

Maja, looking straight ahead, was startled by the honk. She turned and saw lan. 

Seeing him gave her a surreal feeling. 

Maybe it was just the light playing tricks on her. 

She remembered a line from a letter, “I’ve just turned into every drop of rain that accompanies you.” 

That made her sad. 

Ian honked again, annoyed at her lack of reaction. 

Maja snapped out of it and smiled at him. 

lan pointed at a restaurant up ahead. The message was clear: he wanted to have dinner with her. 

Maja wasn’t keen, but she didn’t want to upset lan. She parked her car outside the restaurant. 

lan parked behind her. 

The restaurant was upscale. Each table was private. 

Maja picked a table and pushed the menu towards lan. 

“Mr. Raymond, what would you like?” 

Ian hadn’t expected to run into her, and she looked like she was forcing a smile. 

Just as he was about to ask her about it, Holden called. 

Seeing the caller ID, Ian frowned but picked up. 

“lan, are you having dinner with Maja?” 

“Yeah” 

*I asked Maja. She said she loved the gift you sent. Good job.” 

lan had no idea what he’d given. Carlene had taken care of it. 

He didn’t think Maja was worth the effort. 

Just as he was about to reply, Maja received a message. It was from Neil, saying he’d sent all the Pennyfeather group’s data to RosenGarden, and she should start working on it the next day. 

Feeling more frustrated than ever, she stood up and grabbed her bag. 

“Mr. Raymond, I have some urgent matters to attend to. Sorry, I can’t stay for dinner.” 

Jan glanced at her, his gaze lingering for a moment before he nodded in approval. 

Holden couldn’t quite catch what was said, but he heard a woman’s voice. 

“Who’s that? Maja?” 

Jan gave a noncommittal response, leading Holden to misunderstand. 

“Yeah, she had to leave early.”
