Maja looked like she was in a bad state, her pupils unfocused as if she had lost her soul. 

Probably because her bandage got wet, which made her think her hand was injured again and couldn’t heal. 

lan moved forward, hugging Maja tightly and taking the shards of mirror from her hand. 

Luckily, Maja’s hand wasn’t cut. 

“It’s okay, it’s just a wet bandage. We just need to change it.” 

He was just concerned about Maja, but Maja pushed him away abruptly. 

“Just change the bandage?” Maja sneered. “In your eyes, of course it’s just changing a bandage. My hand can’t be more valuable than Ms. Shepard’s face.” 

lan frowned, that wasn’t what he meant. 

Carlene was so angry when she saw lan hugging Maja. 

She started crying harder, feeling extremely wronged. 

“lan, didn’t you see? This woman wanted to ruin my face; how could she be so vicious?” 

Maja felt disgusted upon hearing this. 

“Vicious? Why don’t you explain why your hand was also injured the day my hand was injured? Right when Phelps Herrington left. I didn’t ruin your face, but you’ve already ruined my hand. I’m just lucky.” 

Maja lowered her eyes, feeling very annoyed with both of them. 

“Besides, Mr. Raymond and I have only been doing transactions. Ms. Shepard, if you’re really jealous, why don’t you find a chance to talk to Mr. Raymond? Don’t blame everything on me.” 

lan’s gaze shifted to Carlene; his eyes were deep. 

Carlene was startled, and her lips began to tremble. 

“I didn’t get someone to ruin her hand, lan; you have to believe me.” 

Maja didn’t want to stay here anymore; she needed to find Phelps again and have him re–bandage her. 

Just as Maja was about to leave, lan grabbed her. “Was your hand intentionally hurt?” 

“If I say it was Ms. Shepard who got someone to hurt my hand, Mr. Raymond, you definitely won’t believe it, so there’s no need to ask me.” 

She broke free of his grip and left straight away. 

lan stood there, Carlene’s cry ringing in his ears. 

“I really didn’t.” 

lan’s face turned cold, the temperature around him dropped instantly, and his words were equally icy. 

“You better not have.” 

Carlene froze, suddenly feeling like she couldn’t cry anymore. 

“She’s Master Herbert’s disciple. You should know what that hand means to her. I will investigate this thoroughly.” 

lan turned to leave, leaving a sentence behind. 

“Carlene, I told you before, we’re not getting back together. I’m not your property. Even if I did have some shady deals with Penny, it’s none of your business. It’s only because of Eric that I’ve been helping you.” 

Carlene was trembling all over, just scared by Maja, almost fainting, now watching lan favor Maja. 

She was grinding her teeth. 

“Are you really going to marry Penny? She’s already married; how can you be with her? Grandpa Holden won’t agree!” 

Carlene’s voice was a bit hoarse; she was afraid to attract too much attention and didn’t want people to see her embarrassment. 

Everyone thought she was lan’s darling. 

“I don’t need to explain to you whether I am going to marry her or not, Carlene; don’t make things more awkward.” 

With that, lan walked away. 

Carlene’s tears immediately flowed down; she was so agitated that her whole body was shaking and her face was wet with tears. 

She hated it! She just hoped that woman would disappear soon!
