Maja raised an eyebrow, letting out an indifferent chuckle. 

“Ms. Darcy, you might as well call Holden right now. I happen to know his number; he gave it to me not too long ago. If you’re not happy, just let him know. Truth be told, lan’s beef with me is all because I love to speak ill of him in front of his grandpa.” 

Her calm demeanor was chilling, leaving Funfly utterly bewildered. 

While Funfly might not have many virtues, she knew how to play her cards right. 

She furrowed her brows, threatening, “If you’re playing me, I can haul you back in any time.” 

Maja didn’t respond, her words had left Funfly stunned. 

Whether Maja was telling the truth or not, given Funfly’s cautious nature, she was unlikely to take hasty decisions. 

She would definitely look into this matter. At least for the meantime, Maja was safe. 

As expected, Funfly ordered her bodyguards to lock Maja up, then sent people to investigate. 

But Funfly’s men ran into Carl’s people during their investigation. 

Having just been discharged from the hospital, Carl immediately sent people over to retrieve Maja upon hearing that she was in Funfly’s custody. 

Funfly and Carl knew each other, they’d crossed paths on numerous occasions. 

Seeing Carl demanding the release of Maja, Funfly assumed Maja was telling the truth and promptly handed her over to them. 

After being scared by lan, Carl didn’t dare to do anything excessive to Maja anymore. 

So, he met Maja at a restaurant and ordered his men to untie her. 

Maja looked unfazed. She had just escaped from the tiger’s den, only to walk into a wolf’s lair. 

“Miss Penny, we had a bit of a misunderstanding last time. Let’s have a proper chat today.” 

Seeing Carl’s demeanor, Maja figured out that Funfly’s people hadn’t told him that she was Maja. 

Carl pulled out a check for two million, then handed over a bottle of pills. 

“This pill can kill silently. Ian is always busy with work, it’s not too far–fetched if he suddenly has a heart attack.” 

After saying this, he stared at Maja in silence. 

“Penny, you’ve managed to gain lan’s trust, which shows your smarts. lan trusts you. He’ll definitely take whatever you give him. If you succeed in this task, I’ll give you an additional eight million, making it a total of ten million. That should be enough for you to live comfortably. How much can you even earn working for lan now?” 

Maja didn’t answer. 

Carl just chuckled coldly. 

“The last time lan came to save you; it was because he still had feelings for you. If he stops caring about you in the future, and I want to kill you, wouldn’t it be as easy as squishing an ant? Plus, you must have family and friends, you wouldn’t just sit by and watch them fall into danger, would you?” 

Anger filled Maja’s heart. All she wished for now was to sever ties with the Raymond family. 

But the people of the Raymond family weren’t ready to let her go that easily. 

“If you disagree, I can make lan’s affection for you into public knowledge. He’s pissed a lot of people off by being in that position. Over the years, who hasn’t wanted to find his weakness? Women who’ve gotten close to him have never had a good ending. Don’t you think those who want him to fail would use you to threaten lan?” 

“Mr. Carl.” 

Maja called out, returning the check, calmly saying, “You want to buy lan’s life with just ten million! Are you looking down on me?” 

A twinge of anger flashed in Carl’s eyes. Did this woman think too highly of herself? 

“lan gave me a bracelet worth twenty million last time, which I sold for fifteen million. Now you want me to do something so risky for you, and you’re only offering me ten million, do you think I’ll agree?” 

Carl’s chest started heaving/ 

lan was so extravagant! The casual gifts he gave to women were worth twenty million! 

The audacity! 

He was filled with jealousy and rage. It felt as if his money was being spent by someone else. 

The Raymond Corporation’s money was supposed to belong to the people of the Raymond family. Ian was so wasteful with money; he definitely didn’t belong in that position! 

“How much do you want?” 

Maja looked up, a smile on her face, “One hundred million. And you need to pay a deposit of thirty million first. I promise to feed lan this pill if you agree to my proposal.” 

“You’re bold. Aren’t you afraid I’ll just kill you right now?” 

“The more I ask for, the happier you should be, Mr. Carl. After all, I’m only interested in lan’s money. If you give more, I’ll naturally help you.” 

Call started to hesitate.
