After ten minutes, his phone was still dead as a doornail. 

lan was feeling antsy, so when Tyler happened to invite him out for a drink, he agreed. 

But as he got to the bar, he bumped into Samuel. 

Samuel was dressed to the nines tonight, flamboyant as a peacock. 

Upon seeing lan, he immediately started to stir the pot. 

“Isn’t this Maja’s ex–hubby?” 

lan’s face turned as black as thunder. He didn’t want to entertain these childish provocations, but Samuel wasn’t ready to let it slide. 

“By the way, have you asked Penny why she spent those nights at Beck’s villa lást time?” 

Samuel knew exactly what cards he held. He couldn’t care less about how many men Maja had been with and he was head over heels for her. But lan was different. 

lan had always kept women at arm’s length. Although there were rumors about him and Carlene, they never even locked lips, so he must be pretty old–fashioned in this regard. 

Indeed, as soon as this was mentioned, lan’s face turned black as coal. 

His eyes were sparking with anger. 

Samuel stepped closer. 

“I don’t give a damn about how many men she’s been with, but you seem to care a lot, huh? If you two end up together, are you going to keep bringing up her past?” Tyler pulled Samuel away, his face was also looking pretty sour.

Tyler was worried they’d come to blows, so he quickly pushed lan inside.

Samuel was clearly tanked tonight, a bit fuzzy; no need to squabble with a drunk. 

But when lan sat in the booth, he was still wondering. For those nights Maja spent at Beck’s villa, did she really not do anything? 

Thinking about this made him feel really sick. 

His eyes were blazing. 

Tyler was trying to talk to him, but he was in a world of his own. 

Next morning, Maja got a call from Jeff saying there was a slight hiccup with the land contract and she needed to go over and sign it again. 

Maja didn’t suspect a thing because she really needed this plot of land, and they had already started renovating it. It would soon be available for the company’s artists, so there was no room for error. 

She immediately went to the coffee shop where she was supposed to meet Jeff. 

But not long after she sat down and took a sip of her coffee, she started to feel woozy. 

When she woke up, she found herself lying on a cold, hard bed. 

Her face turned as white as a sheet, and she stood up, not believing what was happening. 

Her legs were strapped to some medical equipment, and a doctor was examining her. 

“What are you doing?” 

She was supposed to be discussing business with Jeff but how did she end up here? 

Was there something wrong with that cup of coffee? 

Jeff was Jan’s assistant, so what was lan up to this time? 

Soon, she heard the doctor’s explanation. 

“We’re just checking your health.” 

These words felt like a punch in the gut. 

How many times had it been? 

She lost count. lan always treated her this way, in the most direct and humiliating way possible.
