Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 337

"Thanks," I say over the couch before glaring at Michael. Michael smiles back at me.

"I'm getting back to work." Aiden goes upstairs.

The second he's gone, I mutter, "Thanks for ruining the moment."

"You're very welcome." He gets comfortable, lying back against a pillow.

I get comfortable too, sitting back in the corner between the armrest and the back. "How'd you know we were down here?"

"Carson."

I raise an eyebrow.

Michael pulls out his phone. "He picked up your phone when I called you and vehemently explained that I should save you from Aiden's inappropriate, nightly advances."

"He didn't."

Michael chuckles with me. "Your boyfriend. Not mine."

Silence.

"So." I look away from him. "What were you calling about?"

Michael shrugs, looking at the TV. We continue to sit in silence.

"Was it about Onai?" I ask.

He nods towards the stairs. "...If you want to follow Aiden, you can. I was just saying hi."

"I'll stay with you," I say. "I want to."

He gives me a skeptical look.

"I'm serious," I say. "No matter what's going on, I'll always be here for you."

"Okay. We've had quite enough of your speeches to last a lifetime." He chuckles.

I roll my eyes. "There's a reason Onai went with Ethel, even though you didn't want him to. It's the same with the brothers. And it's the same for you and me. We're siblings, and we'll always have each other's backs no matter what, whether it's the logical thing to do or not. Now, you can beat Onai's butt when he gets back safe and sound, but for now, I have a better idea of what we can do."

"What?" he scoffs. "Watch Victorious?"

"How long have you been here?" I ask.

"I was waiting for the optimal interruption moment."

I try to ignore that. "Just give me your phone."

We end up playing Morph for what feels like hours before we pass out on the couch.
