Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 340

Bri and Krys reluctantly stay behind to watch Shen and Fei. Axel and Coach Kenet go ahead in wolf form. Michael's asleep one second and then rushing down the stairs the next. He gets in Aiden's car along with me and Suzie. Aiden pulls out, and we don't exchange a single word all the way to the hospital.

We don't know what to expect when we see them.

We don't know what to think when Dr. Janice doesn't say a word and just leads us to their room.

Axel's standing beside Onai's bed. Coach Kenet has her arms crossed, staring down at Ethel. It's hard to look past what's missing on both of them-their hair. Nicks and cuts line their scalp from where the strands were clearly, haphazardly severed from their bodies.

Beyond that, they seem to be okay, other than a cut lip on Ethel and a scraped forehead for Onai. That is, until I notice a gash on their left arms surrounded by purpling, bruising flesh. Wolfsbane.

It's the only explanation for why they haven't healed yet. The wounds are bad, but they're nothing compared to the ones Onai sustained all that time ago protecting me.

It's easy for some people to know where to go, even if they don't know what to say. Michael goes straight to Onai. Suzie goes straight to Ethel. I stand awkwardly in between them until Aiden goes to Ethel, and playing by the numbers, I go to Onai to balance everything out.

Michael reaches his hand out, first towards Onai's arm, but then he pulls away. Then, towards Onai's head, but then he pulls away.

"It'll grow back," Onai says. "Once the wolfsbane has cleared."

Michael narrows his eyes, staring into Onai's equally brown ones. "You think that's what I'm worried about?"

"I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to him." Onai nods in Ethel's direction.

Michael turns towards Ethel. We all do.

Ethel has the saddest look ever as he rubs his hand over his head. He throws sad eyes in our direction. "What if I never have a hairline again?"

"It's. Going. To. Grow. Back." Onai rubs his forehead but winces. He sighs, opting for leaning against Michael instead. Michael freezes but then wraps his arms around him.

"Save me," Onai says flatly. "From him."

"Be honest, Mom." Ethel looks up at Coach Kenet. "Do you even recognize me?"

A lump lodges in my throat. I missed them so much.

Coach Kenet doesn't say anything. She just shakes her head. I know there's so much she wants to say, and maybe she will one day, but as for now, she asks, "You should share the message with the others, don't you think?"
