“Why are you following me?” Maximilian stopped to stare at Grace who had just called it even with him but came back to follow him. That was kind of funny and unexpected to him.
Grace was a bit embarrassed, “I...um...I’m homeless now.”
“Uh-huh.” Maximilian looked at her indifferently. He thought she was just playing the puppy-dog eyes trick which was too frequent to work for him.
Seeing how perfunctory Maximilian was, Grace felt upset. In fact, she came back to Maximilian in the hope of avenging her father. She didn’t know who the murderer was. But she had made up her mind that she wouldn’t leave until she caught the murderer.
“Can you provide shelter for me for a few days? I will do whatever you want during my stay,” said Grace bitterly after hesitating for a moment. She believed in Maximilian because she thought him to be a good guy. She wouldn’t have begged someone else to help her.
Maximilian was shocked to hear that. Seeing how pathetic she was, he couldn’t bear to turn her down. “Okay!” Maximilian finally agreed.
Before Grace could cheer up for that, Maximilian continued, “But you must tell me what happened.” He had been troubled by the fact that Grace had tried to assassinate him, which he hadn’t figured out. He wanted to hear the truth from her. It was not a big deal to Grace so she agreed.
On their way home, Grace told him what had happened and it turned out that he had been tricked. He didn’t expect those people to be so dirty. By “those people”, he meant people like Dragon Queen or Head of dragon lords and their company. In order to make Grace kill him, they kidnapped her father. Kind-hearted as she was, Grace wouldn’t have collaborated with them to assassinate Maximilian but for saving her father. Because those people went back on their word, she was so infuriated that she suddenly removed the Voodoo Lily from Maximilian.
On a second thought, Maximilian felt that Grace was just taken advantage of by those people. And he didn’t resent her all of a sudden. Instead, he pitied her.
“I’m gonna catch the murderer for sure!” said Grace determined while clenching her fists tightly.
Suddenly a big problem came to Maximilian’s mind. Honestly, there was another reason that he didn’t want to take Grace home where there was a mess without enough rooms. Plus, his mother-in-law, Laura loved to find quarrel in a straw. If he brought Grace home, she would make a big deal out of it. To avoid the troubles, he decided to rent a house for Grace with his own money. Grace was fine with that as long as she had a shelter. Maximilian also gave her 3000 yuan as her living expense.
“Thank you!” Grace was really grateful to him. She hesitated for a second and gave him her machete, “It’s for protecting you.”
“Thanks. But I don’t need it,” said Maximilian waving his hand.
But Grace insisted that Maximilian take it and said, “It’s not a normal machete. It’s poisoned.”
It really rang a bell to Maximilian, which reminded him of the story that a master-hand licked his sword forgetting that it had been poisoned.
“All right.” Maximilian didn’t resist it any more and took it. After all, it was a useful tool.
Grace was happy that Maximilian finally accepted her machete. Having settled down everything for Grace, Maximilian left. They had also left each other their contacts.
When Maximilian arrived at home, Victoria came over to help him take off the clothes for laundry. Suddenly Victoria said unhappily, “Did you go out with other woman?”
