"I'll see you at the research facility tomorrow morning at 9:00 am," Zachary said as Natasha stepped out of the car. Then, he drove off.
Back in her room, Natasha couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. She picked up her phone and called Liana.
"Do you think there's something wrong with Zachary? Or is he hiding something from me?" she asked.
Natasha rambled by herself. Suddenly, a soft chuckle echoed from the other end of the line.
"Liana, I'm serious. Are you even listening to me?"
Liana couldn't help but laugh. She quickly played along and replied, "Yeah, yeah. Mr. Foster probably doesn't want you to find out anything. That's why he's being all mysterious."
There was a hint of amusement in her tone, but Natasha didn't press her about it. She just let it slide.
Once she hung up, Natasha took a deep breath and collapsed onto her bed. It felt amazing to rediscover something she was passionate about. All in all, Natasha felt content with today's events.
At first, when Zachary offered her the position of the project lead, she wasn't sure she could handle it. But since turning it down wasn't really an option, she decided to give it her all.
Because of that, she felt a sense of calm. In fact, it even helped her brush off the incident with Matthew earlier that day.
In any case, her routine was finally back on track. She slept soundly through the night.
…
The next morning, after getting dressed, Natasha cycled to the research facility.
She had arrived quite early so the place was still mostly empty. Since she was already here, she figured she might as well explore a bit.
Yesterday, Zachary had only shown her around briefly. There were still a few key areas she wanted to check out for herself.
The moment she stepped inside, everyone's gaze turned to her.
