“Alright, send me the address. Sandra and I are getting ready to head over now,” Joycelyn said, her mood light, her packing movements quickening. 

She hung up the phone and contacted Lucy. 

Lucy, who had just started her new job today, had only just arrived at the office and wasn’t familiar with her colleagues. She hadn’t quite fit in yet. But when she heard Joycelyn was having lunch with her, she was thrilled. 

Without asking many questions, she got the address and immediately took a cab after work. 

It wasn’t far for Lucy; just a twenty–minute ride. 

The restaurant was on the 88th floor, and with her VIP status, Lucy was escorted by the front desk staff into the elevator. 

Lucy quickly texted Joycelyn to let her know she’d arrived. 

The elevator ascended from the second basement floor, and when the doors opened, a tall, elegant figure appeared before her eyes. 

Out of the corner of her eye, Lucy noticed how the perfectly pressed trousers hugged his long legs. Of course, in a high–end restaurant, there would be more men with such refined charm. 

Just as Lucy thought this, she heard a familiar voice. “Not coming in?” 

Lucy looked up from her phone, and there he was: Haddy. 

His eyes hid a depth of tenderness–warm, polite, and noble. 

“You go ahead,” Lucy said, lowering her face again. 

The elevator doors slowly began to close, but Haddy reached out, pressed the open button, and with a gaze that sparkled like stars, he lowered his eyes and softly said, “Haven’t seen you all day, Miss Barrett, and now you’re shy?” 

Lucy shot her head up, her makeup bright, her aura one of a powerful woman, her eyes flickering with a trace of angry annoyance. “I’m just worried you’ll ruin my appetite later.” 

“This restaurant has great food. It won’t ruin it,” Haddy said. 

Lucy rolled her eyes but didn’t respond. She lowered her gaze back to her phone, unwilling to engage further. 

Haddy didn’t press her. As the elevator doors closed, he hit the second–floor button. The doors opened, but he didn’t exit. Instead, he pressed the first–floor button again. 

The elevator doors opened, and Lucy walked in, planning to press the 88th floor button herself. 

But she was stopped when she noticed that the man in front of her had already pressed it. 

Those long, slender fingers–hands that any hand enthusiast would swoon over–felt oddly familiar. The scent surrounding him was too familiar too–subtle, cold wood fragrance. 

Lucy looked up from her phone. 

And, of course–Haddy. 

“How are you back here again?” Lucy asked, annoyed, as she pressed a few random floor numbers, hoping to escape without having to ride up with him.

But it was too late. The elevator began to ascend. 

“Yep, it’s me. You should spend less time on your phone outside, or you’ll ruin your eyesight,” Haddy said, his voice gentle and melodic, not hurried, carrying a unique kind of tenderness. 

But Lucy could feel her blood boiling. 

No matter how he spoke to her, with whatever sarcastic or loud remarks, Haddy always had this calm, refined demeanor. The kind of man who, even if you punched him, would worry about whether your hand was hurt. 

Men like him, with too much patience, could be incredibly annoying. 

Lucy put away her phone and moved closer to press the buttons for several floors. 

The elevator didn’t stop at every floor. Only even–numbered floors. 

Suddenly, the elevator jolted with a loud clang and stopped. The lights flickered, and the numbers scrambled wildly. 

Lucy was terrified. Her heart raced as she thought, ‘Oh my god, did I break the elevator?‘ 

The elevator swayed, and Haddy quickly steadied her by the arm. “Don’t press any more buttons. It’s stuck” 

“You’re kidding, right? It’s not going to fall, is it?” Lucy froze, her fear growing. 

If she had known, she would’ve just waited patiently. 

“If it falls, at least you’ll have me to cushion the blow,” Haddy said calmly, his voice warm and comforting. 

“Haddy, do you think you’re funny?” Lucy’s heart was in her throat, while Haddy was still cracking dark jokes. 

Haddy, stung by the comment, didn’t dare say anything more. Instead, she pressed the emergency button and contacted the building’s security. 

“We should be stuck between the 22nd and 23rd floors,” Haddy said, holding a scared Lucy with one hand while gripping the elevator railing with the other, trying to stay calm. 

After sorting things out with security, she pulled out her phone to message Ellison, only to realize there was no signal in the elevator. 

Lucy, on the verge of a panic attack, crouched down, her face gradually losing color, her body trembling. 

After just a minute or so, her bright face turned pale, and her body was quaking. 

Haddy immediately squatted down beside her, gently inspecting her. “What’s wrong? Don’t be scared. It’ll be over soon.” 

Lucy buried her face in her arm, unable to hold back the overwhelming fear. Looking up, she saw Haddy leaning in, his eyes full of concern. 

She, who usually prided herself on strength, felt her eyes begin to water. “Is it okay to be scared?” she said, her voice trembling. 

Haddy was a bit surprised. 

It wasn’t just fear of the elevator. Lucy had been locked in a small, dark room by her stepmother when she was a child, a month–long ordeal that had left her with claustrophobia.
