The helicopter roared above, sending strong gusts that made my hair and dress flutter wildly.

“Dr. Zimmer, who’s coming?” I turned to Sergio, noticing his frown, his expression colder than usual.
“Just some unrelated people,” he said flatly.
Then, as if realizing his tone, he softened and looked at me. “By the way, we’re married now. Isn’t calling me ‘Dr. Zimmer‘ a bit too distant?”
His words caught me off guard. “Then… what should I call you?”
“Serg,” he answered, stepping closer and gently smoothing my windblown hair. “And from now on, can I call you Coco?”
His intimate address made me uncomfortable. A shiver ran down my spine, and goosebumps formed on my arms.
But he liked me. Would it be too cold of me to refuse?
Especially since I had forgotten everything about him and had kept my distance from him all this time.
After a brief hesitation, I nodded. “Alright.”
The helicopter landed, and I saw figures approaching. I instinctively asked, “Who are they?”
From a distance, I could make out a man and a woman, accompanied by a group of bodyguards.
As they drew closer, the guards–clad in black, their faces concealed behind masks and sunglasses— remained expressionless.
The man and woman appeared to be in their 40s or 50s. The woman was remarkably well–kept, with few visible wrinkles and an air of sophistication. She looked younger than her supposed age.
Her eyes were piercing, carrying the weight of someone who had seen too much of the world.
The instant our gazes met, an unexplainable sharpness sent a chill down my spine.
The man beside her appeared unremarkable, yet his deep, unreadable stare unsettled me.
Without thinking, I took a step back, hiding behind Sergio.
The woman spoke, “Did you come all this way just for her?”
A sense of unease tightened in my chest–I had been right. They meant harm to me.
Sergio must have noticed my fear. He reached for my wrist, his grip firm. “It’s okay. Don’t be scared.”
But I couldn’t shake off the dread creeping over me. I had no recollection of those people, yet an instinctive fear clung to me.
There were gaps in my memory, pieces of my past lost to me. But when I first saw Sergio, something about him felt strangely familiar.

Still, I was certain I had never met those two before, So why did they terrify me so much?
Sergio’s gaze remained steady as he spoke, “Dad, Mom, you’re scaring her?

“They’re your parents?” I felt even more puzzled. They didn’t seem like family, though I could faintly see a resemblance between Sergio and the woman.
“Yes,” he admitted, his voice softer. “They can be intense sometimes. I’m sorry if they frightened you. Let’s get you some rest.”
I had no desire to stay near them. Their hostility was unmistakable, like they despised me before even knowing me.
Only one thought filled my mind–leave as far as possible.
Sergio must have noticed my reluctance because as I hurried away, he reassured me, “Don’t be afraid, Coco. I’m here. I’ll protect you this time.”
“Hmm.”
His words seemed to carry a hidden meaning, What did he mean by ‘this time?
After leading me back to the room, Sergio asked, “Are you scared of them?”
I nodded without hesitation. “I feel like your mom doesn’t like me.”
A woman’s
20 was rarely wrong.
he said with a soft smile. “What matters is that I like you.”
“That doesn’t mat
His
gentle expression was reassuring. “Don’t overthink it. Leave everything to me. Just get some rest.”
“Okay.”
As he stepped
heard the unmistakable sound of a lock clicking into place.
Why did he lock the door? Was he trying to keep me from overhearing their conversation? Or was he worried his parents might harm me?
Had I wronged them in the past?
Everything was getting more and more confusing. A nagging suspicion crept into my mind–was Sergio lying to me?
Over the past few days, I had come across tiny surveillance cameras scattered throughout my room, with the sole exception of the bathroom.
But why? We were married–what reason did he have to spy on me?
I never hid my discomfort when he touched me, yet he acted as if he didn’t notice.
My head swarmed with questions, but I had no answers. I couldn’t make sense of his actions.
If he meant to hurt me, why did he take such meticulous care of me every single day?
His love seemed real. But if he had been deceiving me all along. what exactly was he hiding?

With his parents‘ sudden arrival, the tranquility I had grown used to was shattered. A restless unease settled in my chest.
I went to the bathroom, hoping that washing my face would help clear my mind.
When I reached for my cleanser, I realized I had run out of it. Bending down, I grabbed a fresh box from the cabinet.
The outer seal had been tampered with. Though the product was new, someone had already opened it.
As I opened the box, I was surprised to find a folded piece of paper tucked inside.
The message was written in a liner pen.
“Chloe Sander, this is a note from the version of you before you lost your memories. If you want to uncover the truth, make sure neither Sergio nor the second person ever sees this.”
The handwriting was undeniably mine. That could only mean one thing–I had known in advance that my memory would be wiped.

The readers' comments on the novel: Even after Her Death (Chloe and Luke)
I take back my compliment and this is another novel I stop reading. Why are there so many chapters missing!!!! If much rather pay to read than read the rubbish on this site...
Finally a good story with mostly uninterrupted reading due to garbled paragraphs, which is evident in most of the other novels I've tried reading and given up on I'm thoroughly enjoying it!...
