When I said those words, the man didn’t stop walking. Instead, he quickened his pace. He casually replied, “Ms. Sander, bear with it. This isn’t the time for you to give birth. If we stop now, we’re as good as dead.”
Something felt off. This man didn’t care about my life or death at all; it seemed like he was in a rush to get me somewhere.
A sense of unease grew in my heart. The dead man wasn’t the traitor–he was!
He was a spy sent by that madwoman, tasked with transferring me onto a ship at the port while Sergio wasn’t around.
Because of the labor pains, sweat was pouring down my forehead like beads.
Feigning agony to dull his vigilance, I slowly slid the knife hidden in my sleeve into my hand.
To him, I was just a heavily pregnant woman about to give birth. His attention was focused ahead and on the surroundings.
He didn’t notice when I swung my arm, driving the knife deep into his chest.
Blood spurted out with a “splat,” splashing across my face. I was terrified, but I had no choice.
If he took me away, I wouldn’t die, but living would be worse than death.
I had no choice but to take the risk.
The sudden stab caught him off guard, and the pain caused him to instinctively throw me aside.
I was prepared for this, bracing myself to fall on my back while protecting my stomach.
When I hit the ground, I turned to my side. The impact primarily affected my left arm, but the pain was insignificant compared to the contractions.
I endured the agony and scrambled to my feet. Ignoring the amniotic fluid pooling beneath me and the sweat soaking my body, I held my belly and desperately fled the scene.
To my horror, the man got back up. He seemed to realize I intended to kill him and wasn’t about to let me go. Covered in blood, he lunged toward me.
I panicked. Move, legs! Run!
At that moment, a gunshot rang out.
The bodyguard’s head exploded in a spray of blood as he collapsed to the ground, revealing Sergio holding a smoking gun.
“Coco.”
In just this short amount of time, a pool of water had already formed beneath my feet. I looked at Sergio with pleading eyes. “Dr. Zimmer, please save me and the babies. I’m about to give birth.”
Sergio’s brows furrowed tightly. “Alright, we need to find a place to settle down first.”

matter how carefully he calculated, he hadn’t anticipated I’d go into labor at this exact moment.
He scooped me up in his arms. “Hold on tight.”
I clung to his clothes, forcing myself to endure the intense pain, and nodded weakly
“What’s the current situation? Can you buy us 15 minutes?”
“There are spies among my people. I was almost deceived and taken away just now, but luckily, I made it back in time. If they don’t get me to the port at the agreed time, they’ll definitely storm the island. As for how long that’ll take, I can’t say for sure.”
He carried me to a bed. “Unfortunately, the doctor was just killed. Coco, it seems I’ll have to deliver the babies myself.”
“But…
His gaze was steady and resolute as he looked at me. “Don’t think about anything else. Just treat me as a doctor. Right now, you and the babies‘ lives are the priority. I’ll go get some hot water. Get yourself ready and take off your pants.”
Although I was a pregnant woman, the thought of undressing in front of a man, especially a stranger, was mortifying.
Clutching the little rabbit toy in my hands, I twisted its ears nervously.
“Carl … ”
A hoarse voice came through the communicator, “Chloe, your safety and the baby are what matter most. Don’t worry–I don’t mind. Hang on, I’ll be there soon! Just hold on.”
Zoey’s voice grew anxious as well. “This isn’t the time to be worrying about propriety! Focus on keeping yourself and the babies safe.”
I gripped the bedsheet tightly. Sweat and amniotic fluid soaked the fabric beneath me.
Not long ago, Sergio had asked the doctor to assess whether I could deliver naturally or would need a C- section. He had promised that everything was ready for when the time came.
But life had its way of throwing plans into chaos. Who could’ve predicted I’d end up giving birth in a place like this?
When Sergio returned, he brought along a local elder. The woman’s skin was dark, her outstretched hands thin and shriveled, covered in deep wrinkles.
Sergio explained to me, “Coco, this elder has extensive experience with deliveries. Trust her.”
I finally let out a breath of relief. Thankfully.
“Alright.”
“I hear someone coming. I need to guard the area. You must hold on.”
Sergio handed me a gun, instructing me to stay ready for anything.
I was flustered and overwhelmed. The elder spoke in the local dialect, which I couldn’t understand, but I

could roughly guess her meaning.
She gestured for me to push.

Pointing to her fingers, she seemed to indicate that I was fully dilated and that it was time to exert all my strength.
I had been terrified of giving birth, but the thought of meeting my babies soon stirred something deep inside me. Driven by maternal instinct, I pushed with all my might.
Dear, be good. Your father will be here soon. Please, come out safely, okay?

The readers' comments on the novel: Even after Her Death (Chloe and Luke)
I take back my compliment and this is another novel I stop reading. Why are there so many chapters missing!!!! If much rather pay to read than read the rubbish on this site...
Finally a good story with mostly uninterrupted reading due to garbled paragraphs, which is evident in most of the other novels I've tried reading and given up on I'm thoroughly enjoying it!...
