The scarred man was also flung into the door due to the momentum. He reached out and hit the driver. Meanwhile, Mia had loosened the ropes of Luz's hands as well. This was their final chance.
"Stop the car!"
When the van was about to pass through the exit, it was stopped by the armed police who were guarding by the side of the road.
Luz's heart sped up, but before she could do anything, she and Mia was pulled into the arms of the two men sitting between them.
"Be good and don't move, or you'll be in trouble." As he spoke, his mouth, which stank of cigarette smoke, pressed down against hers.
Luz's mind went blank for a moment, and her stomach churned. She almost threw up the snacks and drinks she had at the KTV.
"What's the matter, sir?"
The man with the scar calmly rolled down the window and tried to put on a normal smile. Just below the window, he held a small black pistol, ready to shoot.
"Just a normal check. Open the doors."
After saying that, the policeman came over and put his hand on the door, signalling him to get out of the car so that they could check the van.
"What do we do, boss?" The driver lowered his voice. He was visibly nervous and scared.
"Grab your weapons and fight!" The scarred man snapped. Gunshots were fired immediately.
The disgusting smell right in front of Luz's nose finally disappeared. Instinctively, she grabbed Mia's hand and said, "Run, now!"
Even though gun safety was not good in the US, it was still the first time she had heard gunshots in person. Her face was pale from fear, especially after she saw the policeman who had stopped the car just now lying on the ground, a bloody hole in his arm still spouting blood.
"They have guns. Requesting for support!"
The sudden gunfight plunged the entire tollbooth into chaos. Every policeman stationed there took out their guns with a nervous expression.
This was not a drill. They could get shot anytime.
"Drive straight through."
The scarred man shot down the policeman who had stopped them and immediately ordered his men. Luz was just about to open the door to escape when the van lurched forward, throwing her back into the backseat. Her back hit against something hard, and she frowned from the pain. Once the van gets through the toll, they were done for.
The police on duty also realized their intention and immediately started placing down spikes on the ground. The spikes pierced through the tyres and the van stopped, black smoke emitting from the engine.
"Boss, we've had a puncture."
"Get out of the car and fight! The boss's men are nearby. He will definitely come to help us." The man with the scar kicked the door open and rushed out with a gun in his hand.
The sound of shooting rang in her ears. Mia pulled her up and asked, "Are you okay?"
"My waist hurts. Mia, are we going to die here?"
Luz glanced at the drug dealers who had gotten out of the van in a panic. It was a lie to say that she was not afraid. If they got out of the car now, they would probably be shot.
"Don't talk nonsense. Someone will definitely save us."
Mia was also scared to death in her heart, but she forced herself to calm down. God, she had never been in a relationship. It would be such a shame to die like this.
