Ex-husband's Sweet Trap novel Chapter 57

The car immediately started and sped down the crowded provincial road.

When Henry's Maybach arrived at the tollbooth, all that was left were the bodies and blood on the ground. He glanced at the scene with narrowed eyes. The temperature around him dropped.

Lucas was also shocked by this scene. There were casualties on both sides, but there was no sign of Luz and Mia. He couldn't help but groan inwardly.

"Where is she?"

Henry strode out of the car. His face was cold, but his eyes were so angry that they seemed to burn everything in front of him. The policemen on the mission were so intimidated by his aura that it took them a while to answer.

"They were taken away by drug dealers."

"Start the rescue immediately to ensure their safety!"

In addition to anger, there was also a strong murderous intent in his tone. If anything happened to Luz, these people would be in deep trouble.

"But Mr Maynard, the higher-ups have already given us instructions. This is a huge syndicate, so they've sent the federal police to deal with this..."

If it were just them, they could still consider the safety of the hostages, but the federal police had no such qualms.

"I don't care who's in charge, no one can hurt her!"

Henry's eyes were chilly. He would kill anyone who dares to hurt even a single hair on Luz!

"Henry, I'm sure she'll be fine."

It was the first time that Lucas had seen him so angry. He lowered his voice, hoping to comfort his friend who was anxious and angry, but Henry went straight back to the car.

"You can't do it alone. Let's go together."

Lucas immediately understood his intentions. He quickly squeezed into the car, and the Maybach rushed past the traffic jam and headed towards the densely packed provincial road.

Henry dialled in a number on his phone. "Check who's dispatched here for the drug case. I don't care if they're under the federal police, tell them to prioritize Luz Boone's safety."

......

The man with the scar glanced at the person who was waiting for him in the passenger seat. His fierce face immediately became well-behaved. "Isiah, the goods have been flushed down the toilet. There will be no evidence, but my two brothers..."

If he died, it would be fine. But if he didn't die, he would be taken away by the police. Once they confessed, not only would they be excommunicated from the business, they would also have to live the rest of their lives in hiding.

"You should've just killed those two useless things."

The man named Isiah glared at him coldly. The most important thing in this business was to be quick and agile. Now there were two problems left, which was more troublesome.

"Isiah, we can use these women as leverage to get our men back."

The scarred man also knew that he had not dealt with the matter properly, so he immediately thought of a way to atone for his mistake.

Luz's waist was hurting badly. She reached back and touched it, only to find that her back was covered with wet and sticky blood. That was why it hurt so badly.

The blood loss was causing her vision to blur, so she bit her tongue hard to keep her dwindling consciousness.

Did these drug dealers want to exchange her and Mia for the two injured men? Did this mean that they would not be in danger at least for now?

Isiah looked back at the two women in the back seat contemplatively before telling the scarred man, "You'd better pray that the police wants them alive too."

When Luz heard this, her face turned paler than before. What did he mean by that? The police were the people. How could they leave her and Mia to die?

"Henry, leave this matter to the police." He couldn't watch his brother risk his life, even if the hostage was Luz.

"I will not leave my woman's life in the hands of another."

Henry looked up into the air. He knew how the federal police worked. They were willing to sacrifice the life of a hostage to get the criminals.

Lucas didn't know what to say when he saw him like this. Henry really loved Luz.

"If you're going to be a hero, count me in too."

He smirked and began calling his men to pinpoint the places where helicopters could land without detection.

The federal police sent by the central headquarters were also very efficient. In one night, they had already found three suspicious positions.

"There are signal devices on the helicopter. As long as we do a signal scan, we can quickly locate them."

In the small bungalow that served as their temporary command centre, Henry frowned at the spots marked on the map. All of these places had dense forestry, which would make it easy for the criminals to hide their traces.

"Mr Maynard, we know that you are anxious about the safety of your wife, but we are sorry to tell you that we had singled out twenty spots for scanning earlier, but it's evident that the syndicate has the intelligence and technology to clock our scans. The signals are all hidden."

Chandler Estrada, the chief detective leading the operation, said helplessly. This syndicate was very cunning. The police had been targeting them for three years without any avail.

"So?"

Henry asked with a cold look in his eyes.

"I just want you to know, Mr Maynard, that we aren't sure which of these three places they are hiding in. Our numbers are split, so we cannot guarantee the safety of the hostages. We can only try our best."
