Chapter 187
The man walked closer and stopped in front of Elaina.
“Jalen?” Elaina looked at the familiar face in front of her in disbelief. She almost doubted her eyes.
“Yes. Can you walk?” Words failed to describe how Jalen felt when he finally found her. He was so eager to hug her in his arms now that Elaina stood safe and sound before him.
But he did not do that. He was afraid Elaina would dislike his hug and could only be careful.
Elaina nodded in a daze. She did not have time to ask Jalen why he was there. Instead, she looked down at Corey in her arms. “Can you help me carry him out?”
“OK,” Jalen answered.
Jalen took Corey from Elaina and did not leave right away. He was waiting for Elaina to go with him.
It was not easy to find her. Jalen did not want her to disappear from his view anymore.
Elaina moved slowly after Jalen, leaning on the wall, and tried not to show she was in pain.
Jalen quickly noticed something. He stopped and bent down. “Come. I’ll carry you.”
“No… I’m good. I can walk by myself.” Elaina shook her head. She thought, how could I let Jalen carry me? We are not that close.
What’s more, he and Alisha might have been married. It’s unacceptable to be carried by a married man.
“On my back or in my arms with this kid being put down. Your choice,” Jalen spoke with decisiveness.
Elaina was stunned. She believed that Jalen could do it.
Gritting her teeth, Elaina said, “Don’t put him down.”
“OK.” The man nodded and bent down again.
Elaina did not refuse this time. After all, the longer they stayed here, the more danger they would face.
Slowly, Jalen walked to the hole as he carried Corey in his arms and Elaina on his back.
