Chapter 293
The next morning, Elaina and Jalen got into the car heading to Peach Village.
She looked at the trunk filled with all kinds of gifts and was confused. “We are going to pick up the two children, not visit relatives.”
“We’ll be visiting relatives,” Jalen said.
He smiled and added, “There are elders who watched you grow up there. They are all your friends and relatives. I can’t go
empty–handed, can I?”
“They don’t know you. Why can’t you go empty–handed?” Elaina retorted. Strangers would think that Jalen was her boyfriend if they
overheard the conversation.
“It doesn’t matter. Things will change. I need to leave a good impression on them in advance, right?” Jalen was planning for the
future. He hoped that their relationship would be blessed by her relatives and friends.
Perhaps they did not care. Jalen did so in case they would make things difficult for Elaina. Jalen had to try his best to protect her.
Jalen sounded serious. Elaina wanted to talk back but agreed in the end. “Fine,” she said.
The car drove slowly. New York was far away from Peach Village, and it was about a five–hour drive.
They set off in the morning and arrived at the village at noon.
Elaina had called in advance, so when Elaina stepped into the old house, her uncle Xzavier Gibson was already waiting at the door.
“Ella, I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.” Xzavier came up to greet Elaina. When he saw Jalen next to Elaina, he was stunned.
“Who is he?” Xzavier was puzzled. Elaina didn’t tell him that she was with Jalen over the phone.
Elaina looked at Jalen and said to Xzavier, “This is Jalen. He came here for fun. Don’t mind her.”
“This is my uncle, Xzavier Gibson,” Elaina said to Jalen.
“Nice to meet you.” Xzavier was confused, but he did not ask much and led the two into the house.
