The central heating in the house was cranked up high, leaving Sophia feeling parched. She grabbed a glass and headed downstairs to the kitchen for some water.
Upon reaching the kitchen, Mrs. Simmons, the housekeeper, was busy prepping for the next morning's breakfast. Seeing Sophia, she asked with concern, “Miss, have you been keeping well lately? The weather's been all over the place, temperatures fluctuating wildly. And with your delicate constitution, you must take extra care of yourself.”
Sophia felt a warmth in her heart at Mrs. Simmons' words, her thoughts drifting to Jason, who had seemed to cough earlier.
Feeling a softness inside, Sophia asked, “Mrs. Simmons, do we have any honey and lemon? I was thinking…”
“Oh, yes!” Mrs. Simmons beamed, “Given your frequent colds and sore throats, your father made sure we're always stocked with honey and lemon for making soothing teas.”
Sophia replied, “Could you make some tea then, please?”
“Are you feeling under the weather?” Mrs. Simmons inquired, surprised.
“No, it's not for me!” Sophia frowned slightly, “It’s Jason — he's caught a cold. Could you prepare some tea for him?”
“Of course, I’ll get right on it,” Mrs. Simmons immediately said.
“Thanks. He's been coughing a bit, so just see what you can do,” Sophia instructed.
“Leave it to me!” Mrs. Simmons assured her, then with a smile, she asked, “Once the tea is ready, would you like to take it up to Mr. Jason yourself?”
Sophia quickly responded, “No need, just have someone deliver it to him!”
She wasn’t about to fuss over him!
“Understood, Miss. Don't you worry!” Mrs. Simmons chuckled.
“Thank you!” Sophia said before taking her glass of water and heading back upstairs.
After an hour of simmering, the tea was ready just as Evelyn stepped downstairs, heading straight for the kitchen. “Mrs. Simmons, what’s that delightful aroma? What are you making?”
Mrs. Simmons explained, “Miss Sophia asked me to make some tea for Mr. Jason since he’s come down with a cold. It’s to help with the congestion and cough.”
Evelyn’s expression remained neutral. “Which Miss? When did we get a second Miss in the house?”
