Chapter 439 Are You Going to Torture Me to Death?
Huston’s grip on the handkerchief tightened. This tough man unexpectedly started feeling anxious. He could only imagine she would dislike him even more once she woke up.
The words “I’m sorry” rolled in his throat, even though he knew she couldn’t hear them. Still, he whispered softly in her ear,
“I’m sorry, Evelyn…”
In her sleep, Evelyn didn’t respond, nor could she give him a response. Half of the reason for her high fever of 39.2 degrees was caused by Huston.
After seeing off the doctor, Sadie went upstairs with the medication. She knocked on the door and received permission
to enter. As soon as she walked in, she saw Huston sitting
by the bedside, taking care of Evelyn with great care and
attention.
She couldn’t help but be stunned. How Huston intimidated Evelyn earlier today was completely different from his current gentle demeanor. He was terrifying just a moment ago, but
now he appeared so tender.
Unfortunately, Evelyn couldn’t see his gentleness.
Alas, why did he have to do that?
Sadie sighed helplessly. She didn’t want to disturb the peace, so she put the medicine on the table and left.
Huston sitting by the bed, did not move. He did not even look back, as if he had not noticed the movement behind him.
He just focused on the woman on the bed and cared for her
carefully.
Evelyn woke up due to a sore throat. There was a dry and scratchy pain in her throat, and her breathing was heavy.
Each breath made her feel uncomfortable.
She opened her eyes and saw the familiar ceiling. At first, her eyes were a little blurred, but they gradually became clear
after a while.
She looked down and found her body covered with a
comfortable silk quilt. The temperature in the room was neither high nor low. At that moment, she remembered everything that had happened before.
The forced image flashed in front of her eyes, and the light in her eyes dimmed, not only because of the embarrassment just
now buT
Huston had been staying by the bedside all along, but he went downstairs to instruct Sadie to prepare some light nourishing soup. Just as he left, Evelyn woke up. He met her tired, listless eyes and quickly walked over to her.
As he reached out his hand to feel her forehead, she reacted strongly and quickly turned her head to avoid it.
Huston’s palm froze in the air, not knowing whether to rise or
fall. It was so embarrassing.
After a while, he lowered his hand and didn’t touch her. He just asked, “Are you dizzy? I’ll take your temperature later.”
As he spoke, he took out an electronic thermometer from the first-aid kit and placed if beside her hand. Evelyn understood what he meant and pursed her pale lips slightly. She did not resist and obediently put it into her ear.
37.2 degrees. It was a slightly elevated temperature, but generally, no major concerns.
Huston was relieved and began to care about other things.
He walked to the bedside and looked at the white medical
tape on the back of her hand. Feeling guilty, he asked, “Are you hungry? Shall I ask Sadie to bring you some food or go
downstairs?”
“There’s no need.” As soon as Evelyn opened her mouth, she was shocked by her hoarse voice. She frowned and was about to cough when a glass of hot water was handed to her. She looked in the direction of the fingers and saw Huston.
Her heart couldn’t help pounding. She wasn’t touched but nervous. His approach made her nervous.
She didn’t take the glass of water. Instead, she lifted the quilt on her body and wanted to walk away from him. However, as soon as she took a step, she was grabbed by the wrist. Huston’s low voice came to her ear. “Evelyn, don’t make
trouble.”
