Chapter 669 Lucas Is Missing
Two days later, Evelyn was out shopping and having dinner with Grace. They hadn’t seen each other in a long time,
so there was a lot to talk about. However, just then, Evelyn received a phone call from Lucy.
As soon as she put the phone to her ear, she heard Lucy’s panicked voice, “Evelyn, something terrible has happened! Our child is missing!”
Evelyn’s hand, which was holding the knife and fork, dropped upon hearing those words. Her mind went blank for a moment before she managed to respond in a daze, “Mom, what are you saying…?”
Clearly, this had just happened, and Lucy was also at a loss. She was crying as she spoke, “Lucas! Lucas is missing! I had just gone downstairs to buy a pancake with him. I was paying, and in the blink of an eye, he was gone. I’m searching downstairs now, and your father has come down too. What
should we do…?”
Evelyn was dumbfounded. The thought of Lucas being missing, not knowing where he had gone, felt like a heavy blow to the back of her head, leaving her completely clueless.
Grace noticed her emotional state and furrowed her brows, taking the phone from her hand. “Hello?”
“Grace, is Evelyn with you? Lucas is missing. It just happened.
I told her. Please take care of her and make sure nothing happens to her. Let’s find Lucas as soon as possible…”
Upon hearing that the child was missing, Grace also became anxious. However, compared to Evelyn, she managed to maintain some composure. “When did the child go missing?”
“Just now, about ten minutes ago…” Before Lucy could finish. her sentence, Grace suddenly saw a figure rushing out in front of her.
She quickly got up and chased after her, calling out, “Evelyn! Evelyn!”
Evelyn felt like she was no longer in control of her own body. A chill ran up from the soles of her feet, and she ran out without
hesitation, her eyes vacant.
The two of them walked all the way to the entrance of the mall before the cashier grabbed Evelyn. “Evelyn, calm down!”
But at this moment, Evelyn couldn’t calm down. Her mind was filled with what Lucy had just said. When her gaze met Grace’s, her eyes immediately turned red. “Lucas is missing…”
“I know, I know.” Grace hurriedly tried to calm her down. “Auntie said he went missing just a little while ago. We’ll rush over there first, and on the way, I’ll have my friend check the surveillance footage. Think if there’s anyone suspicious.”
After saying that, Grace held Evelyn’s hand and headed toward the underground parking lot. Evelyn was in no condition to drive, so she sat in the passenger seat.
With a skillful drift, Grace pulled the car out and dialed the emergency number. However, after only a couple of sentences, they started arguing. “What do you mean you can’t open a case until twenty-four hours have passed? Our child is only four years old, not an adult! If something really happens, can you afford the responsibility?”
Evelyn felt her heart grow cold as she listened. She placed her hands on her knees, feeling a chilling emptiness.
An extreme sense of fear instantly overwhelmed her. She couldn’t even control her trembling, and even her breathing became shallow and involuntary.
Calm down, Evelyn.
She kept repeating those words in her mind, trying to remind herself that at this moment, when their child couldn’t be found, she had to stay calm.
