Chapter 51
Her brain, of course, went on to lecture about how he was out of her league as well. Her heart relented, reminding her brain that a guy who was even half as attentive as Benjamin had been would be amazing and she sighed again.
“You alright?‘ Benjamin asked, picking up on her sadness.
“Yeah, it’s just the hormones,” she replied, wiping a tear that escaped her eye.
Benjamin walked around the store with her and even walked her back to her car. As he put her shopping in the backseat, she noticed a motorcycle parked just down from where she was.
“You going straight home from here?” he asked and she nodded at him. “Okay, I’ll see you on Monday?”
Again, she dumbly nodded in agreement before getting into her car. She pulled out and drove toward the street. Looking back, she saw Benjamin standing exactly where she had left him.
Smiling, she turned back to driving, losing sight of him as she pulled out of the large lot. She got stopped at a red light and glanced in her rearview mirror. She saw the motorcycle from the parking lot behind her.
Just like the last time, it seemed to be her co–pilot on her way home. No sooner had her car reached the house than the bike zoomed away. “Strange,” she mumbled as she walked into her kitchen and made herself a light snack.
She headed up the stairs, taking her snack with her. When she got there, she found the book she was reading no longer sitting on her bed or side table. She huffed and turned to walk back out.
She flipped the switch for the hall light to go on, but it stayed off. Letting out a bit of a frustrated sigh, she watched the floor as she made her way to the steps. Unable to see the steps, she kept her head down and took one at a time.
As she got near the bottom, her foot caught on something, and her body moved forward. She grabbed the banister, trying to stop herself from falling, but it seemed to turn awkwardly to the side. The breaking of the banister and her slipping caused her to fall down the last two steps, with one of her legs behind her.
“Shit,” she hissed when she came to a halt. She rubbed her belly, hoping the babies were fine. As she stood up slowly, a sharp went through her.
Pandora took some deep breaths as she slowly made her way
to
the couch.
“Boys, are you both okay?” she asked them but they didn’t move. “Boys, come on, move for mommy,” she sobbed out at them, but again they seemed to stay still. She covered my mouth.
“It was just a little fall, they stopped moving when Benjamin left, she reminded herself. “If he was here they would move,” she chuckled a little, trying to reassure herself.

Looking at the house phone, she grabbed it and punched in Benjamin’s number, praying he was the one who answered.
“Dr. Parks,” Benjamin answered, sounding tired. Pandora felt a wave
of guilt.
“Is anyone there?” he carried on, and she involuntarily sobbed. “Pandora?”
She covered her mouth, shaking her head, having no idea how he knew it was
her.
“Pandora, has something happened? Are you okay? The boys?” he asked frantically.
“I fell down the stairs,” she cried out to him. “I asked them to move but…” She stopped talking, taking a few deep breaths.
“Pandora, I’m on my way, just
st stay put.”
“No, no husband, not there,”
“Who is with you?”
