Cindy's eyes widened with excitement when she heard Kate was pregnant, and it might be a boy. Her voice shook with joy, "Kate, don't worry. I'm here for you. Just focus on taking care of yourself and the little one. I'll drop by tonight to check on you."
"But what about Shawn..." Kate sniffed, her voice trembling.
"You leave Shawn to me," Cindy replied softly. "I'm his mom, and he'll have to listen. His dad and I have been dreaming of a grandchild. If we want you to have this baby, then that's what will happen."
"Aunt Cindy, and I..."
"Don't worry about a thing. I'll take you for a check-up soon, and we can start planning for the families to meet. You're carrying a Reynolds baby, and I promise you won't be treated unfairly."
The message was loud and clear: Cindy was on board with Kate joining the Reynolds family.
Kate grinned at her phone, though she kept up the act with a teary voice, "Thank you, Aunt Cindy. You're amazing."
...
Back at the law firm, Allison heard a client was waiting and headed straight to the meeting room.
As she opened the door, she saw Kate lounging on the couch. Allison halted, eyebrows knitted, "Kate? What brings you here?"
Kate lifted her chin defiantly, locking eyes with Allison. "I'm here with some good news."
Allison stayed quiet, her brows still furrowed, waiting for Kate to continue.
"Well, good news for me," Kate smirked, "maybe not so much for you."
