I cleared my throat, standing at the entrance to Dominic’s office. This wasn’t news I wanted to deliver, especially not with an audience present.
“Mr. Blackwood, Miss Winters and Luna have met,” I said, keeping my voice steady despite the gravity of the situation.
Dominic’s head snapped up, his blue eyes instantly sharpening with alarm. Too late, I noticed Henry Chase sitting across from him, his expression curious at my boss’s sudden tension.
“When? Where?” Dominic demanded, rising from his chair.
“Approximately forty minutes ago at Moonhaven Bistro,” I replied cursing my oversight in speaking so openly.
Henry leaned forward. “Is something wrong? Perhaps I can help-
“No,” Dominic cut him off sharply. “Felix, call Ryan immediately.
I nodded, already pulling out my phone. “I’ve tried reaching Luna, but her phone goes straight to voicemail.”
Henry’s eyes darted between us, clearly sensing the emergency. “Who is Miss Winters? Is Amber in danger?”
I winced at my carelessness. This wasn’t information for Chase ears.
“Miss Winters is a distant relation of the Blackwood Pack,” I improvised smoothly. “There’s been some… tension between her and Amber. Nothing serious.”
“My sister can be difficult,” Henry offered. “I could speak with her”
“That won’t be necessary,” I interjected politely but firmly. My wolf instincts were screaming that this was pack business, not for outsiders.
“Mr. Chase, if you wouldn’t mind waiting in the conference room,” I suggested. “I’ll have someone bring you coffee.”
Henry hesitated, then nodded. “Of course.”
Once the door closed behind him, Dominic’s composed facade crumbled. “How the hell did this happen?”
(Dominic’s POV)
My hands shook as I dialed Amber’s number again. Straight to voicemail. My
desperate.
“Her driver?” I asked Felix.
“His phone is off as well, sir.”
I slammed my fist against the desk. “Damn it! I should have told her about Sophia weeks ago.”
Felix remained calm, his steady presence the only thing keeping me from shifting and tearing apart the office. “I’ve tried contacting Miss Winters and her manager, Zara Jenkins. No response from either.”
I ran a hand through my hair. “I deleted Sophia’s number after our last conversation.”
The irony wasn’t lost on me. I’d removed all traces of my former lover from my life to focus entirely on my mate, and now th decision might have put Amber in danger.
“Ryan,” I muttered, grabbing my phone again.
He answered on the third ring. “I’m in a meeting, Dom.”
“Sophia Winters is with Amber at Moonhaven Bistro,” I said without preamble.

There was a moment of stunned silence, then the sound of a chatt craping. “I’m leaving now. I’ll call Sophia.”
“Let me know the second you reach her,” I ordered, then ended the call.

Felix stood quietly by the door, his expression carefully neutral. “r, if I may… What exactly are you concerned might happen?”
I sank back into my chair. “Sophia isn’t vindictive by nature, but she’s hurt. And she has information that could damage Amber’s perception of me.”
“Luna is stronger than you give her credit for,” Felix observed quietly.
“I know,” I admitted. “But I should have been the one to tell her about Sophia. About our arrangement.”
My wolf Leo growled at the memory of my years with Sophia Winters. It had been a mutually beneficial relationship–I provided protection and connections in the supernatural world, she provided companionship without the complications of mating. We’d been careful, discreet.
“I’ll expedite the compensation process for Miss Winters,” Felix suggested. “The sooner we fulfill our end of the termination agreement-
“Do it,” I nodded. “Whatever it takes.”
My phone remained silent in my hand, a reminder of how powerless I was in this moment. All I could do was wait and hope that Amber would understand when I finally got the chance to explain.
(Third–person’s POV)
The private dining room at Moonhaven Bistro lay in ruins. Shattered plates littered the floor, tables overturned, and splashes of blood stained the cream–colored walls.
In the center of the destruction, Amber Chase stood with her back against the wall, her amber eyes glowing with rage as her wolf Cora pushed against her skin, desperate to protect her human counterpart. Across from her, Sophia Winters crouched behind an overturned table, her elegant face marred by a deep cut across her cheekbone where she’d fallen against a broken moonstone
plate.
“Stay down,” Amber hissed to Sophia as one of the four intruders circled closer.
The men had burst in during their lunch, already reeking of alcohol and aggression. Rogue wolves, Amber had realized
immediately–wolves without pack discipline or protection.
“Pretty little things,” the largest one slurred, his eyes glowing an unnatural yellow. “Alpha’s whores, aren’t you? Smell like money.”
Amber had reached for her phone, but one of the men had snatched it and crushed it beneath his boot. Her driver Mason was nowhere to be found–likely waiting in the car, unaware of the danger inside.
“Back off,” Amber warned, her voice low and dangerous. “You have no idea who you’re dealing with,”
The leader laughed, a harsh sound that grated against her ears. “Oh, we know exactly who you are, Amber Chase. And you,” he pointed at Sophia, “the famous actress. Two for one. Lucky us.”
They advanced together, their intentions clear in their leering expressions. Sophia whimpered softly, her wolf Zoe clearly not a fighter.
Amber felt Cora surge forward, lending her strength. She might not have a wolf form, but she had Cora’s power flowing through her veins. When the first man lunged, she was ready.
Her fist connected with his jaw, sending him stumbling backward. The second grabbed her hair, but she twisted, drv.her elbow into his solar plexus. He doubled over, gasping.
“Run!” she shouted to Sophia, who scrambled toward the door only to be intercepted by the third attacker.
Sophia screamed as he grabbed her, tearing her blouse. The sound triggered something primal in Amber–the need to protect

another female. She launched herself at the man, clawing at his fag with Cora’s strength behind her fingers.

Blood sprayed as her nails connected with his eye. He howled in pain, releasing Sophia who stumbled and fell, her face striking the broken plate on the floor.
The door burst open, and Mason charged in, his massive frame immediately engaging the fourth attacker. His fists were a blur as he pummeled the rogue wolf.
“Get her out!” he shouted to Amber, nodding toward Sophia.
Amber grabbed Sophia’s arm, pulling her toward the exit, but the leader had recovered. He tackled Amber from behind, sending both women crashing to the floor.
Pain exploded in Amber’s ribs as she hit the ground. She felt Cora howling inside her, demanding release, demanding blood.
The sound of sirens penetrated the chaos. The rogues hesitated, then fled, pushing past Mason who was bleeding from a deep gash across his forehead.
