Chapter 385 

Lifting her head, she said, “I ran into some punks” 

Mamie’s face darkened as she berated Agnes, “How many times have I wamed you? S City is vast, and you can’t trust everyone. Yet you still wander off alone at night. With your looks, you’re bound to attract unwanted attention!” Agnes bore the brunt of Mamie’s frustration, head bowed, resembling a chastised child 

Mamie’s anger intensified, seeing Agnes’s passive maction. Even when you’re the victim, you act so submissive. Why won’t you stand up for yourself?” she exclaimed, her voice filled with concem. “From now on, you’re staying close to me after work. If anything happened to you, how could I face Jared?” 

Agnes knew that Mamie was genuinely worried about her 

When the doctor was treating her wounds earlier, Agnes didn’t feel anything, but Mamie was holding her hand so tightly it hurt more than the wound. 

When Agnes looked up, she noticed Mamie’s eyes were red. Mamie caught her gaze and gently scolded her 

Although Agnes had been injured, it wasn’t a major wound. 

However, she was concerned about the possibility of tetanus from the rusty knife that had caused it, so she took a tetanus shot 

Subsequently, she was administered an IV at the hospital. Even though the injury wasn’t grave, Mamie insisted she be admitted. 

Throughout the process – from registration to consultation, from finding a doctor to getting medication – Mamie took charge. 

For someone like Mamie, who was usually waited upon, handling these tasks was uncharacteristic. 

Agnes, watching Mamie’s diligent efforts, felt an array of emotions. 

They had once been adversanes 

When had their relationship changed so drastically? Agnes had previously believed that Mamie’s softened attitude was only because she and Ivan were indebted to her. Now, however, she realized that Mamie genuinely cared for her as one would a younger sibling. 

Tears welled up in Agnes’s eyes again, perhaps due to the night’s harrowing events making her feel unusually vulnerable 

By the time Mamie had settled everything, it was late, and Agnes had just completed her IV treatment. 

Agnes said to Mamie, “You go back and rest first, you’ve really been troubled today 

Mamie rolled her eyes, “Agnes, if you dare to get yourself into this mess again, see if I don’t beat you up.” 

After saying that, Mamie looked at her watch and muttered to herself, “It’s about time 

Agnes felt that Mamie had something on her mind. 

“Mamie go back and rest quickly.” Agnes felt really sorry. 

Just then, the door to the ward opened. 

Jared appeared at the door 

Agnes was stunned.
