Chapter 438
It wasn’t until Jared had left that it suddenly dawned on Agnes.
That Valeria, she’s from the Thomas family, but she’s not Cilian’s biological kid.
She’s actually the only daughter of Cilian’s younger brother, Berlin.
Talk about a crazy coincidence.
Agnes went home in the afternoon to get some clothes for Preston.
Just so happened to see a few guys in suits milling around the Pritchard family’s villa.
Agnes thought it was a bit fishy.
She went up and asked a few questions, only to find out, Laura had put the Whitfield family’s villa up as collateral with the bank, because she was drowning in debt and couldn’t pay it off. Now, the auction house folks had come to check it out, and the Pritchard family’s villa was going to go under the hammer next month. After hearing this, Agnes was so pissed off she was shaking.
She quickly went to find Laura, who was in the living room, casually doing her nails.
Agnes stood in front of Laura and asked, “Ms. Laura, what’s up with the house?”
The Pritchard family’s villa was the house her parents got when–they got married.
It was also the first thing they bought with the money they made when they started their own business.
Even after Dad married Laura, the house was still in Mom’s name.
Laura answered with a smile, “Agnes, you know the company’s situation. Your dad’s investment flopped, and he lost billions. Starlight International Group is on the brink of bankruptcy. There’s a mountain of debt. I had no choice but to sell the house. I’ve lived here for ten years, I don’t want to leave. But debts need to be paid. If your dad were here, he’d make the same decision.”
“But the house belongs to my mom, you don’t have the right sell it.”
Agnes grew up here.
This place held all her childhood memories, and all the memories of her mom.
The cherry blossom tree in the yard was planted by her mom. It’s now grown big and beautiful, blooming every spring.
Agnes would never let Laura sell this house.
“Agnes, your mom’s been gone for years. The house has long since been transferred to your dad’s name. Your dad can’t make decisions now, so as his wife, I have” to step in. I know you’re attached to it. I promise, once we get back on our feet, we’ll buy the house back, okay?”
Agnes snorted, “You’ve already sold off your shares in the company. I can turn a blind eye to that. But the Pritchard family’s villa, I won’t let you touch that.”
Laura was taken aback.
How did Agnes know about her selling off the company shares?
Starlight International Group was practically a shell now. If it goes bankrupt, everything’s gone.
She certainly wanted to make as much money as she could before the company completely collapsed. Just so happened, there’s this new media company willing to pay top dollar for the Starlight International Group shares.
New media’s all the rage now, Laura couldn’t find out who’s behind that company.
But she thought, it might be some rich idiot.
