Agnes put her phone into her bag, muttering dismissively, “Well, he’s still better than you Jared’s self–centeredness hadn’t changed a bit over the past four years. 

He was all over Beatrice at the hotel entrance, but now he’s asking about Agnes love life. 

Agnes didn’t want to get tangled up with him too much. 

Because Agnes knew, Jared was filled with resentment towards her. 

To avoid trouble, it was best to steer clear of him. 

Agnes sidestepped Jared, ready to leave. 

She barely took a step when Jared grabbed her arm, “So tell me, what makes him better than me?” 

Agnes was momentarily taken aback. She didn’t even fully grasp what Jared had said. 

It took her a while to process. 

Turns out it was because she casually mentioned that her boyfriend was better than Jared. Jared’s face was dead serious. 

He was still the same, nitpicking, the arrogant personality hadn’t changed at all. 

Was it because her casual comment hurt his pride, so he had to get to the bottom of it? 

The party ended, the open–air car park was bustling. 

Agnes didn’t want a big argument with him. 

She replied, “He’s younger, more thoughtful, and of course… 

Agnes deliberately glanced at Jared’s private area, “He has his advantages in certain areas.” 

Agnes was poker–faced, a hint of mockery in her tone. 

But she noticed Jared’s ears turning red, not sure if she had pissed him off. 

Jared’s face turned grim, staring at Agnes‘ eyes as if he wanted to kill her with his glare. 

After a few seconds, he gritted his teeth and said, “You’re shameless!” 

Agnes chuckled, “Mr. Whitfield, thanks for the compliment.” 

Jared stormed off in a huff. 

Agnes‘ face turned solemn. 

Ever since she came back, her plans had been disrupted because of Jared. 

The first time they met, Jared seemed like he wanted to choke her to death. 

And every time after that, Agnes could feel the hatred and anger from the bottom of his heart. 

Agnes was confused about Jared’s feelings towards her. 

Maybe he hadn’t let go after four years, maybe he felt wronged that she disappeared suddenly, maybe he was in pain because he lost a child. 

Such complex emotions tangled together, causing their every encounter to be like carrying a dagger to stab each other. 

Agnes acted as if nothing happened, but she was hurting inside. 

Over the years, she never held any grudges against Jared, nor did she project her resentment towards Alyssa Whitfield onto Jared. 

She chose to leave because of the child, and because she couldn’t be with Jared anymore due to their past. 

They couldn’t live together, couldn’t grow old together. 

Even though they broke up, Agnes‘ heart still couldn’t let go of this man, nor could she stop loving him. 

Over the years, every time she saw Nocturne’s face, Agnes saw Jared in him. 

She never forgot Jared. 

However, when she came back and saw the pain in Jared’s eyes, and his current cold–hearted demeanor, Agnes always felt like she owed him something. But the current situation was completely different from the past.
