However, when Samantha saw Leonardo, she was still pleasantly surprised. She chirped, "You're finally willing to see me!"
Leonardo glanced up, his icy gaze carrying a sense of distant detachment. "So you stood me up because of Ryan?"
"Are you talking about the other day?" Samantha tried to explain in a compliant manner. "There was an accident at the very last minute. No one wanted things to turn out that way."
"But you chose him," Leonardo mentioned.
She tried to explain further, "I couldn't just leave him—"
He cut her off, asking, "So you just left me hanging?"
That one sentence hit the nail on the head. Samantha did feel guilty about the incident. She had no excuse, so she could only offer a sincere apology. "I'm sorry."
But if she could go back to that day, she would still make the same choice.
Samantha couldn't just stand by and watch Ryan, who had just saved her, get loaded into an ambulance while she ran off to get married. She couldn't do that.
Besides, her marriage with Leonardo was just a contract, a mere act. What difference could a day before or after make? She didn't even understand why Leonardo was so furious.
"Did you think a simple 'I'm sorry' is enough?" Leonardo questioned her.
"How would you like me to apologize? If it's something I can do, I'll try—" Before she could finish, something warm pressed against her lips.
Samantha was completely stunned and let out a muffled gasp. She instinctively tried to pull away, but Leonardo held the back of her head, not allowing her to escape.
He pried open her lips and deepened the kiss so passionately that she almost couldn't breathe.
In a brief pause to catch their breaths, Leonardo finally spoke. His voice was hoarse and low. "Now, this feels more sincere."
"But…" Samantha gasped for air when she finally broke free. Her eyes were rimmed with red, and she looked utterly helpless. "We… don't have that kind of relationship…"
"Didn't you agree to marry me?" Leonardo asked.
"Get back here," Leonardo commanded.
Simon turned back with his eyes tightly shut, absolutely determined to not see anything inappropriate.
"Start driving," Leonardo barked out another order.
"Why don't you continue…" Simon didn't even finish when Leonardo shot him a glare. Realizing he had said too much, he clamped his mouth shut and got into the driver's seat immediately as instructed.
"I should drop Ms. Newton home first, right?" Simon asked.
"Go straight to Sterling Residences," Leonardo replied.
"Yes, sir." Simon nodded obediently. This was Leonardo's order, so he didn't dare to waste any time. He stepped on the gas and sped toward their destination.
Samantha, however, was not happy about it. Her voice was soft and gentle, but it carried a touch of firmness.
