Winnie lowered her head and raised his mouth in self-mockery. It seemed that he knew that Wendy had found her alone, or he would not apologize to her.
"Mr. Bennet, you always said sorry for women. You said sorry to before for Penny and now for Wendy and Klara. Actually, I quite envy them, when they did wrong things, there will be a man say sorry for them."
"Don't worry, I don't pay any attention to what they say."
"I gotta go."
Winnie's heart was in tears. She hoped that Brian could also say sorry to other women for her. However, she it would be impossible.
Brian did not speak and Winnie turned to the house. Brian's footsteps were unable to move because of Winnie's envy.
He wanted to help Winnie most, protect her most, but he kept hurting her.
As Brian was about to walk away, Winnie's wronged cries came from the house.
"Don't cry, Winwin. What did he say to you?"
Daenerys’ worried voice also fell into Brian's ears.
"Don't ask, don't ask, Daenerys. I just want to cry for a while, don't ask..."
Winnie's crying hurt Brian’s heart. He wanted to rush in to embrace her and comfort her.
But the consequence of his impulse was likely to be eternal misery.
Winnie and Brian had not seen each other for more than 10 days since they met at Daenerys' home. Although they missed each other, they would not feel hurt if they did not meet.
But fate had brought them together again.
Richard had not been caught yet. The case that Penny instigated kidnap and maltreatment Luke was time to sentence.
Brian and Winnie came to the court as plaintiffs, and Penny was tried as defendants.
All the evidence was conclusive, there was no opportunity for Penny’s chicanery.
Penny seemed to have seen the facts and she did not deny when the judge put forward all the charges.
She was sentenced to six years in prison.
Winnie was ok for that, whether it was six years or six days, Winnie only hoped that Penny could change.
However, Brian was not satisfied with the sentence. According to the criminal law, she could only be sentenced to six years in prison. If Richard was caught and proved that she was involved in the killing, she would be sentenced to more serious charges.
Penny was in low mood in the whole trial process. Until the end of the sentence, as she was to be taken away by the bailiff, she said to Winnie with hostility.
"Winnie, it is only six years, I will miss you."
Penny said gnashing teeth with hatred in eyes.
Winnie looked back to Penny without any reaction, only to feel that six years of time seemed to be unable to change Penny.
"Be careful what you say, Penny, threaten me again, I will sue you."
Brian warned her with anger.
Brian could not stand that. He was around, but Penny threatened Winnie. How dare she?
"Brian, take good care of your woman these six years. Take it as a chance I give it to you."
To this point, Penny was not afraid of any one. No matter how cruel Brian's words were, she wanted to warn Winnie that she would not give up and that she would live on the support of hatred for the rest of her life.
Penny then was taken away by the bailiff.
And Winnie was speechless. It seemed that what she told Penny was in vain. Why did Penny think Brian liked her? Why did Penny hate her?
They walked out of the court. Winnie turned to Brian.
"Mr. Bennet, I want to ask you something. Why did you not tell Penny that you do not like me, and why did you make her misunderstand me and hate me?”
Winnie had long wanted to ask this question, but she felt pointless to ask so.
However, Winnie could not help but ask seeing hatred in Penny's eyes.
"......"
Brian didn't know how to answer.
"To protect Wendy, right? Are you afraid that Penny would hate Wendy? Are you afraid that Wendy will get hurt, so I have to bear all this, right?"
Winnie asked angrily. She thought she did not owe Brian, but why she took all the blame. Why did he use her for his beloved woman?
