His Eagle Eyes on Me novel Chapter 1979

"And?"

"My mom told me to quit my job and go home." Leah stared straight ahead. "I have to listen to them no matter how old I am and I'm a bad daughter if I disobey them."

"So are you going to quit and go home?" The bodyguard was not interested in her family drama.

"I don't want to. If I do, they are going to force me to marry some man I don't like..."

"What year do they think this is? Is arranged marriage still a thing?" The bodyguard was shocked.

"It will always be a thing no matter what year it is." Leah smiled bitterly. "My dad is old. My brother is young and of mediocre talent. If my dad wants to secure our family's position, a marriage alliance is the only way."

"Oh. I really don't get rich families' dramas.

"My parents used to look down on my cousin's family because they were poor. My cousin has proven herself more than capable and is earning a lot now by running a big company like Tate Industries. My parents' views have drastically changed how they view her, and they now trust her more than they trust me." She sighed. "It's not my cousin's fault, though. It's my own problem that I'm not as brilliant."

"What's wrong with your cousin? Why is she sticking her nose into your private matter? Which part of me and Layla coming into your apartment provoked her?

" he said mockingly. "She was fawning all over my boss when she was pursuing him. She was so shameless. She was even polite to all the servants but they already knew what she was after."

"It's exactly because your boss rejected her that she ." Leah paused.

"She, what?" the bodyguard asked. "If you don’t want to go home and be married off to some guy by your parents, then you are left with only one choice."

Chad answered right away. "Why are you calling me, Layla? Did something happen?" "Something did happen," Layla mumbled gloomily. "I ran into Natalie today and heard her say that my daddy is dead. I didn't like her before and now I hate her. If my daddy was around, I would have told my daddy to fire her right away."

Chad immediately understood what she was trying to say and asked, "Why would she say that your dad is dead?"

"I overheard her speaking to her cousin, who's my class teacher now," Layla said angrily. "Even if my dad really is dead, I don't want to hear it from her! Ugh!"

Layla started sobbing as soon as she finished the sentence.

"Layla, I'll remember every word you say. Uncle Ben is coming back soon and once he's back, I'll talk to him right away to see how we can deal with Natalie," said Chad consolingly. "Good girl, Layla. Don't cry.”

"... Has Uncle Ben found my daddy?" Layla asked in a muffled voice.
