His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 420

Cassius felt a flutter in his heart, the intensity of the gaze making his cheeks flush.

"You are overstrained; you look pale."

"Are you worrying about me?" Chasel asked, a soft light twinkling in his eyes.

Cassius swallowed, answering in a low voice, "Yes."

That simple word made Chasel elated. All his grudges towards Cassius vanished in an instant.

He was helpless, so weak; he was smitten with this man.

"I've operated on Mr. Abernathy, removed the bullet in his left shoulder, and the arrow lodged in his back."

Cassius helped Chasel up, who subtly leaned into him, "He's lucky that the arrow wasn't poisoned; otherwise he would've been done for. Even so, his condition isn't promising. The arrow was just a centimeter away from puncturing his organs. If that happened, even Dr. Eve wouldn't be able to save him."

Everyone was stunned into silence. Evadne’s thin shoulder trembled slightly, feeling as if a heavy weight was crushing her chest. Tears welled up in her eyes.

She was a doctor; she was Dr. Eve. She knew all too well what Chasel's words meant. Thaddeus was on the gate of hell!

"And now? How is Thaddeus now?" Jareth asked impatiently.

"Even though we managed to remove the sharp objects and give him a blood transfusion, his organs are showing signs of failure due to severe blood loss. So now, Mr. Abernathy is still in critical condition," Chasel said, being honest as a doctor.

Everyone's hearts sank, their faces gloomy. Evadne felt ice cold, as if all her blood had been drained.

In the past, Thaddeus would always understand her emotions, offer her his jacket or embrace her, always trying to give her warmth, no matter how tough she appeared to be in front of others. In the eyes of the one who deeply loved her, she was always a girl who needed to be protected.

"Can I go see him?"

After a moment, Evadne looked at Chasel with her pale face, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

"Right now, he’s going to enter the ICU; wait until he's out of danger," Chasel said softly.

Evadne nodded, her voice choked, "Okay, I'll wait."

Chasel wasn't exactly a sentimental man, but seeing Evadne so heartbroken, he couldn't help but feel a pang of distress.

After receiving a blood transfusion, Darcy was taken to a regular ward to rest.

"Are you okay, honey? If you're uncomfortable, you must tell me. Don't push yourself."

Debby stayed by her husband's side, who looked ghastly, as if he’d turn few years older in a night. She felt a throe of heartbreak, “Back then when you had acute appendicitis, you still push yourself to make lectures at school for students. Upon getting off the stage, you passed out in severe pain, and after you were taken to the hospital and undergone the operation, the doctor said any moments of late arrival, you’d be in danger. You aren’t taking good care of yourself, which always worry me a lot.”

"As long as you're taking care of me, that's enough," Darcy gently pinched his wife's cheek, his eyes filled with tenderness.

“I’m serious!” Debby playfully poked his waist with her finger.

“Actually, I just feel light-headed and not having much strength right now. Other than that, there’s no more.” Darcy let off a brush-off smile, “I asked the secretary to prepare some soup for me, also for you.”

“If you want to take aliment, might as well try lamb or fish, Darcy. Just eating soup isn’t enough.” Evadne walked in and uttered half-jokingly, “Maybe you can prepare some soup when Debby delivers the baby.”

"Evadne, what are you saying, we haven't planned that yet," Debby blushed, her lips pressed tight.

"Evadne is right. Our careers are stable now, and the election is over. Debby, we should add a cute new member to our family."

Darcy held his wife's hand, caressing her delicate fingers, "I know you've always loved kids, and you've held off for my sake. Over these years, you’ve been through a lot with me. I’m so guilty and sorry. From now on, it's all good times."

"Darcy, what are you saying?" Debby leaned in closer to her husband, running her fingers across his handsome face, her smile as sweet as a young girl's, "Following you unflinchingly was my choice. You don't owe me anything; on the contrary, you've given me too much."

Darcy was moved, sitting up and pulling Debby closer into a kiss, not caring if there was someone near them.

Debby was shy at first, especially with Evadne still in the room, but soon she got lost in the passion of their kiss.

Evadne turned away, leaning against the wall in the shadows tearfully, happy for her sister's happiness.

Although originally Emeric disapproved of the couple for their age difference, and the fact of Debby’s moving far away to Helgen concerned Evadne, every time she saw them together, she could feel their intense affection toward each other.

After making out for a while, Debby pulled away shyly. Darcy, however, was at ease, holding his wife and talking to Evadne.

"Evadne, don't worry. I spoke with the King of Country T last night; he has assigned the new Chief of Police to arrest Eden. Once Eden is captured and interrogated, we will find out who wanted to hurt Mr. Abernathy and Cassius."

Although Cassius was Darcy's brother-in-law, the latter was nearly a decade older than Cassius. Despite Darcy now being a head of state, he remained humble and affable in front of his wife's family.

"Thank you, Darcy," Evadne stuttered out gratefully, "and thanks for giving Thaddeus a blood transfusion. Thank you so much."

"No sweat, Evadne. If I can't even do this much, what kind of a brother-in-law would I be?" Darcy looked slightly embarrassed.

Just then, his cell phone rang. Seeing that it was a call from the King himself, he hurriedly picked it up.
