“Love you too, bye.”
Melanie hung up and the moment she did, another called cake through. It was Bethany and Amara did not hesitate to pick the call.
“Bethany-“
“Amara! Thank you so much!” Bethany exclaimed happily as soon as Amara answered the phone. “Jason came home looking like shit today and when I demanded a divorce, he didn’t try to use the photos against me. You must have gotten rid of them, right?”
“Right,” Amara nodded.
“God, thank you so much.” Bethany thanked again and Amara chuckled.
“I’m just happy I was able to help.”
“And I’m grateful. Don’t worry, I’ll make your actions worth it. You won’t regret helping me.”
Before Amara could respond, the call ended. She stared at the phone for a few seconds, wondering what the woman meant, but brushed the thought off and began to get ready for work.
One problem at a time, she told herself. Right now, her main problem were these damned hickies Tobias left.
She definitely needed to cover them up before Jasper started another rumor at work. She couldn’t afford to have another progress-slowing-down problem on her hands.

After Bethany ended the call, she turned to face her mother Gemini Sinclair, who sat behind her office table, monitoring her with the eyes of a hawk.
“Was that her?” Gemini asked to which Bethany eagerly nodded.
“Amara Miller’s her name.” Bethany said and quickly rushed forward when she saw how her mother’s expression crumbled at Amara’s name. “She’s not like the rumors, mother. Amara’s different, she’s actually really nice and helpful. If not for her, I’d still be tied to that scumbag by now.”
Gemini’s frown deepened. “And why did she do this for you? To gain favor with me?”
“I thought so at first, but it’s actually because she too knows how it feels to be in a marriage with no love. She helped me because she’s been through the same thing.”
Gemini’s expression softened at this and Bethany took this as an opportunity. She retrieved Synergy’s proposal and placed it on the desk in front of her mother.
“Even though Amara helped me with no reward in mind, I think it’s only right that we do the same for her. Synergy, they want to partner with us and the offer is huge, mom. They’ll be providing us with the newest technology in the market, new ways to produce and create energy and a lot more. They’re not asking for too much and I think that if we do this, then it’s the least we can do to repay Amara’s kindness.”
Bethany had spoken a lot in one breath, but she was sure her mother would agree, especially since her expression seemed to have changed.
