Chapter 6
Brennan went crazy and dialed again.
No matter how many times he dialed, the only sound that came from the phone was that
mechanical female voice saying, “I’m sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later!”
He was so anxious that he couldn’t stand steadily. Still not fully recovered, he felt dizzy and fell to
the ground.
Auntie rushed over to help him when she heard the noise. He anxiously asked, “Auntie, did Marlene come back after she went out this morning? Did she say where she was going and when she would be back? I’ve been trying to call her but couldn’t reach her.”
Auntie then exclaimed, turned around and took a box. “Ms. Castillo’s phone is here. She said she won’t be coming back for lunch or dinner today when she went out in the morning. She’s going to
have a gatherin
with her friends. The phone was brought by Ms. Castillo’s friend this afternoon, who said that the young lady left her phone at her place.”
Brennan took the box and opened it, and inside was Marlene’s phone.
He wanted to turn on his phone and find his friend’s contact information, but he discovered that the
phone had run out of battery.
After fully charging, he quickly opened the address book, but there was not a single contact in it.
Luckily, when I opened WhatsApp, I found that good girlfriend she used to mention frequently before, and there were a few unread messages from this friend on the page.
“Marlene, the phone you left with me ran out of battery. If you charge it and see this message, please reply to me.”
“Marlene, why didn’t you reply to my messages? What’s going on?”
“Marlene, didn’t you say you were going to the school to take care of something and then come back home? Please reply to my message quickly!”
Brennan dialed the phone and the other side answered immediately.
“Marlene, you finally showed up! I was so worried; I almost called the p
e!”
“Hello, I am Brennan, Marlene’s uncle. Marlene hasn’t come home yet, so I have a few questions to ask you. Please answer them truthfully.”
The girl across nervously swallowed her saliva and quickly replied calmly, “May I help you?”

“Today I called Marlene, and it was you who answered, right?”
“Yes! I had already informed you truthfully at that time, Marlene went to the restroom, so I helped her answer the phone.”
