Chapter 7
During the interval of waiting for the red light, Brennan opened the voice message.
Brittany’s sharp voice came out, “Marlene, I knew you wouldn’t be honest. Are you intentionally playing hide–and–seek now to make him worry? Do you think you can steal him away like this? Dream on! As long as I’m here, I won’t let him treat you nicely! Just you wait, I’ll contact schools abroad right away and have him send you far away!”
Brennan stared at the phone screen in disbelief. Was this still the gentle and pure Brittany that he
had loved?
He was also surprised to find that Brittany had previously sent multiple messages to Marlene, all of which were insults, provocations, or threats!
He grew colder and colder as he scrolled through Brittany’s posts, which were only visible to her. They were all intimate photos of them.
Marlene swallowed these grievances silently and never mentioned them to him.
He didn’t know that in the places he couldn’t see, Brittany treated the girl he had raised with such
care!
Thanks to his trust in her, so
metimes he would ask her to help convey things that he, as an uncle, found inconvenient to say.
Brittany, a woman with two faces, repeatedly pretended to be responsible for Marlene in front of him and spoke ill of her!
It is ridiculous that he actually believed it!
Brennan gritted his teeth inwardly, “Brittany, you damn woman!”
He confronted Marlene more than once, and the more she denied it, the angrier he became. Every time, he would get very angry with her..
Looking back now, how could she admit it when she never actually did it in the first place?
Brennan realized that whenever he reprimanded Marlene, she would lower her head and remain silent, without any further arguments.
How disappointed and helpless she must have been at that time; her only uncle didn’t trust her!
He slapped himself hard twice. “Marlene, I’m sorry! You are the one I raised with my own hands; I should have trusted you instead of that wicked woman! I should have faced my feelings earlier, so you wouldn’t have suffered so much in vain!”

He only then felt that the tightness in his heart had eased slightly.
Not until the honking continued did he realize that he was still at the intersection, and the light had already turned on.

Brennan suddenly remembered the important matter and quickly drove towards the direction of
the school.
I arrived at school and only then did I find out that Marlene’s mentor had already led a team to go into the mountains for surveying today.
