Chapter 9
Two days before leaving, Maeve received the news that the name change procedure had been. completed.
She went out and got back the newly renamed ID card and passport.
When I arrived home, it was already evening
The weather was a bit cold. She got out of the car, rubbing her hands together. As she looked up, she saw Donte waiting at the door.
He seemed to be waiting for her to come back, seeing the flickering uncertainty in her eyes and hearing the hesitation in her tone.
“Where did you go?”
Maeve took the key and opened the door; her tone was very calm..
“Is there something wrong?”
Donte put his hands in his pockets, pretending to be nonchalant.
“It’s okay, the weather forecast says there will be heavy rain tomorrow, so it’s better not to go out if
there’s no need.”
He found such a lame excuse, even though he was clearly afraid of not being able to find her
tomorrow.
Maeve wanted to laugh, but in the end, she held it back and nodded.
“I knew.”
Looking at her indifferent expression, Donte felt inexplicably flustered.
He always felt that the state she had been showing recently was very strange.
But he couldn’t figure out exactly what was wrong, and he couldn’t articulate it.
On the day of departure, Maeve woke up very early.
Watching the plane at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, she threw away all of her remaining belongings.
Looking at the empty room with only two suitcases left, she let out a sigh of relief.
At eleven o’clock, the doorbell rang.
She opened the door, pulled it slightly ajar, and found a few of Donte’s good buddies.
Chapter 9
“Sister–in–law, we know that you have been mentally exhausted these days due to Donte’s illness. The doctor said a few days ago that he has been taking his medication on time recently, and his condition has been gradually improving. You don’t need to worry anymore.”
“Yes, yes, we also hope that Donte can recover his memory soon. Everyone is looking forward to attending your wedding. Today happens to be your 7th anniversary, and we have prepared some surprises for you.”
Maeve listened quietly as they recited the pre–prepared lines, and then asked a question in a cooperative manner.
“What surprise?”
“You would know if you came with us.”
She hadn’t answered yet when one of the people’s phone rang.
A minute later, several people changed their statement.
“Sister–in–law, something unexpected happened. The surprise may have to wait for a while. You go
ahead and take care of your tasks; we will come to pick you up later in the evening.”
After speaking, several people braved the rain and left.
After watching their car disappear into the rain curtain, Maeve turned around and pushed the luggage down.
Ten minutes later, the taxi stopped at the door, and the driver helped her carry the luggage and took
a step ahead.
Maeve held an umbrella, walked close to the wall, and left the villa.
As she passed by the car parked in front of the next door, she heard some strange noises coming
from inside.
In the sound of drizzling rain, the woman’s voice was charming.
“Didn’t you say that you wanted to restore your memory and return to reality? Brother, it’s almo
time.”
“You are so alluring; how can I bear to leave? It’s getting late, but there’s still time, let’s do it a few
more times…”
Maeve stopped in her tracks.
She turned to the side and watched the racing car shaking more and more violently. Her heart tightened, and a tear rolled down her cheek.
