Chapter 22
On the fiftieth day since Maeve’s disappearance, Donte still had not received any information about
her whereabouts.
The gossip about them spread like wildfire on the internet, but all of it was discussing past conflicts, and no one dug up Maeve’s whereabouts.
Donte’s determination to find her was also worn away by the relentless passage of time.
He dared not return to the empty villa anymore, nor did he want to open the messages sent by the secretary. Even now, when he hears the name Maeve, he would have an explosive reaction.
The Leblanc family stopped all their cards, and he couldn’t spend extravagantly like before to fill
the chaotic heart.
Several brothers also lost confidence and advised him to let go of Maeve and make peace with his
family.
Donte had lived for twenty–four years when he experienced this kind of blow for the first time.
He drank heavily all day, smashing things when he got drunk, crying out Maeve’s name with a hoarse voice, constantly repenting.
Alcohol could only temporarily numb his senses.
When he woke up, what he faced was once again a bleak and gloomy reality.
After days of torment, he no longer possessed the spirited and lively appearance he once had.
On New Year’s Eve, Donte was drinking alone at the bar when he received several calls from his mother, Belen Shah. Eventually, he decided to turn off his phone.
By the time it was early morning, he stumbled back to the villa, heavily intoxicated, and remembered Maeve again.
In the past, after every New Year’s reunion dinner at home, he would go to the villa to be with her.
She would cut beautiful paper–cut window decorations, prepare a delicious meal, and celebrate the
New Year with him.
Two people cuddled on the sofa, watching the fireworks outside the window together, making a wish to be together every year.
Now the fireworks exploded again, but the only thing left beside him was a pile of empty wine
bottles.

Looking through the window, Donte gazed at the bustling scene outside, feeling a boundless loneliness enveloping his heart.
After the clock struck midnight, he opened his phone and sent Maeve a New Year’s greeting.
Ding dong, his phone on the table rang.
He picked up Maeve’s phone, clicked on that little red dot, and sent himself another Happy New
Year message.
Seeing the familiar profile picture sending blessings, Donte’s pain in his heart finally found a slight
relief.
Now, he could only rely on this self–directed and self–acted greeting scene to chat for comfort.
While I was making fun of myself, my brother suddenly called.
He picked up the phone and was about to curse, but he heard news that he couldn’t accept.
“Donte, something happened! Just now, Gavin sent a message saying that your parents went to his place and took Phoebe away.”
Donte’s drunkenness quickly wore off. He dashed downstairs and hailed a car.
When I arrived home, it was already 1 o’clock in the morning, but the old house was lit up
everywhere.
As he pushed open the door, he saw Adrien sitting on the high seat, looking at him with a cold face,
