Chapter 67: I Haven’t Stopped

Do I still love him?
I looked at the two of them back and forth, a small smile forming on my lips. My mouth opened to respond, but then, the door opened, revealing our substitute teacher.
“Times up,” he said, already wiping the instructions on the board. “Pass your papers.”
“I’m not done yet,” Harper muttered, quickly writing her answers on the paper.
I chuckled and handed my paper to the front. “I finished it while you guys were arguing.”
They groaned and made use of the few seconds they had.
“I’m not accepting late papers,” the teacher said, looking around.
“Crap,” Harper muttered. “I didn’t answer the last two questions right.”
“Same,” Gianna said. “I just wrote “art,” because everything is art.”
I shook my head in amusement.
Meanwhile, the substitute teacher began looking around.
“Who is seated there?” he asked, pointing to Heather’s seat
Heather’s friend, Nina, looked around while biting her lip. She went to the bathroom,” she said, “She’ll be back in a minute.”
“Is her paper there?” the teacher asked.
Nina shook her head.
“Then, I don’t have a minute,” he said, placing the papers Inside a folder and making his way out of the classroom. I watched with raised eyebrows, finding the situation highly amusing. This substitute teacher was actually pretty cool!
“Serves her right,” Gianna said with a wide smile. But then she turned to me once more.
“You still haven’t answered our question!” she exclaimed.
I shrugged and gathered my materials. “See you in Mrs. White’s class,” I said, waving goodbye since we had different subjects.
The two of them groaned at the unanswered question.
Evan’s assumption was right when he said that Mrs. White wouldn’t include that particular project for our grade, saying it would just be a “lesson” to all of us.
I didn’t buy it, of course. I knew her pride wouldn’t allow her to admit that she was wrong. However, I would rather take such than repeat an entire semester.
I was on my way to my parent’s house when I saw strange cars waiting outside. My eyebrows furrowed as I
knocked on the door. There were around three black vans a few meters away from the yard.

The door opened, and I swore I saw the front door of the nearest van open, too. So, I quickly went inside and shut it close.
“Woah,” my mom said, taking a step back. “Are you alright?”
I peeked outside of the small window and turned to her once more. “How long have those cars been there?” I asked.
She frowned and also looked out of the window. “For a while now, I believe. Ever since I fetched Andy this noon, they were already there. I thought they would be gone by now.”
“Strange,” I muttered.
“Andy is sleeping in our room,” she said. “Your dad will drive you home. I don’t like the look of those vans either.”
I bit my lip and glanced outside. “Do you think they’re there for us?”
She sighed and shook her head. “If so, what are they doing here? It’s not like we have an enemy.”
I stayed silent, but one name came to my mind.
Garyn? Was this his way of taunting us?
Fortunately, my dad was going to drive us back home. “Come on,” he said, placing Andy in my a
I smiled and followed him. I watched his back and suddenly felt nostalgic. I remembered his silhouette before.
He didn’t look so… fragile.

My parents were getting older…
And somehow, our relationship still couldn’t be brought back to the way it was.
I entered his small, old car, and he quickly started the engine. I glanced at the rearview mirror from time to time to see if the black vans were following after us.
To my relief, the road was clear. It seemed like I was overthinking it.
We finally arrived at our apartment, and I bid my dad goodbye. He merely nodded and smiled, giving me a small wave as I made my way inside. Even back then, he didn’t speak much. However, he was even more silent now.
I knew a part of the reason for his change was because of me.
I made my way up the room, still with Andy in my arms. I gently opened the door and found Sarah already in her pajamas and her favorite popcorn snack.
“You’re early today,” I said as I closed the door.

“That’s rare,” I commented, placing my shoes to the side.
“Right?” she smiled. “It’s because the guy I was talking to you about–that one guy who was supposed to be your first date and was on vacation–he came back. He’s the most competent person in the company, and our bald boss praises him a lot,” she said.
I chuckled and shook my head. “Let me take Andy to his room, and I’ll be right back.”
