Chapter 71: You Again
JULIA
The girls behind me began whispering as Evan stood in front of me. There was a small smile on his lips, which I found strange since he used to look at me with either a scowl or a neutral expression.
“Evan,” I said in a soft voice, glancing behind to see the group of girls looking at me with wide eyes,
“Do they know each other?”
“Chloe, this is your chance!”
“Maybe Evan is just asking her a question.”
“Julia,” Evan said, making me turn to him once more.
I stepped back a bit since I didn’t want to cause a scene. However, Evan cluelessly stepped forward again.
I heard someone’s footsteps behind me, and I presumed it was Chloe. Before I could take another step back, Evan leaned even closer–too close, in fact, that my breath hitched.
I looked at him with wide eyes, silently asking what he was doing. However, he didn’t mind my expression and removed something from my eyelash.
He finally leaned away, making me sigh in relief.
“You had a fluff,” he said, showing me the white material.
I pursed my lips and shook my head. “You didn’t have to do that, though.”
This time, he smiled so wide that it turned his eyes into crescent moons. Just then, the image of a younger, happier Evan flashed inside my mind, and I had to look away quickly to keep my heart from beating too fast.
The footsteps had halted behind me, so I glanced back once more. This time, Evan also followed my gaze.
He looked at Chloe with raised eyebrows.
“Do you need anything?” he asked, no sign of the smile on his face anymore.
Chloe’s cheeks reddened, and she carefully stepped closer to us. I saw how Evan’s face changed.
“I was just wondering,” Chloe started off.
“If you have any questions about the event, please turn to the marshalls at the entrance and exit areas. I cannot entertain all queries.”
My eyebrows raised with every word he spoke. Meanwhile, Chloe’s eyes widenied in embarrassment.
“So, do you have any questions?” Evan asked.
Chloe opened her mouth, but no words came out.
“Then, please step away,” Evan said. “Thank you.”
Chloe’s cheeks reddened to an impossible shade of red, and before I knew it, I was smiling as she walked away with her friends.
“You still haven’t answered my question,” he said. “What are you doing here?”
It turned back to him once more. “I was invited by Mr. Matthews,” I truthfully said, putting some space between

“Mr. Matthews,” he muttered with a small frown.
“Yeah. Have you seen him?” I asked.
He pursed his lips before shaking his head. “I didn’t even know he was on the guest list.”
I looked around the place. “Shouldn’t you be with Heather now?”
His posture stiffened before he let out a deep breath. “She’s somewhere around here, I believe.”
“Then, go with her,” I said, crossing my arms in front of my chest. “Oh, and tell your dad to stop bothering us.”
He pursed his lips. “Is his men still following you around?
“He is,” I sighed. “I already told him I wouldn’t give Andy to your family. Why can’t he leave us alone?”
“I’m sorry,” Evan said, looking up at the ceiling, “I’ll see what I can do.”
I looked into his eyes. “Can you leave all of this behind?” I asked.
“What?” he asked, confusion seen on his face.
I pursed my lips and shook my head. “Nothing,” I said.
I knew that nothing would change unless Evan left his family. But I also knew how important his work was to him. Even if it was stressful, he loved this kind of life.
Of course, he couldn’t leave it behind.
“Do you want me to show you around?” he asked, appearing hopeful.
I shook my head once more. “I’m heading out soon,” I said. “You should entertain your guests.”
With that, I turned around and walked away from him. He called my name once, but I didn’t bother looking back.
I just needed to find Mr. Matthews and pass the project on to him. However, I wanted to do that right after taking a photo with Mr. Miyagi!
Maybe I should have accepted Evan’s offer after all. However, it was still unclear to me why Evan was hosting a party for him anyway.
I halted when I saw Mr. Miyagi surrounded by other artists who wanted to be acknowledged for their works. My heart raced inside of my chest. If I passed up on this opportunity, then I would never be able to have a photo with my lifelong idol!
“I need some liquid courage,” I muttered, feeling strangely nervous.
With that, I looked around for the servers handing out drinks.
Finally, I saw one nearby, holding a tray that only had two drinks left. His back was turned to me, so I gently tapped his shoulder, making him turn around.
I took one of the drinks and bowed my head. “Thank you,” I said.
However, just before I was about to drink it, the server held onto my wrist, making my eyes go wide.
“Excuse
I couldn’t even finish my question when I saw how the server looked. Blonde hair, blue eyes–the opposite of Evan’s features.
