Chapter 44 

The door of Charlie’s study was not closed, and Lauren walked to the door, leaned over, and listened for a while. There was no 

sound again so Lauren knocked the door, “Mr. Frank, are you alright?” 

No one answered. 

Lauren was worried about Charlie, so she pushed the door and walked in. 

The study was large, with the bookcases and floor in the color of wood. On the right hand side was a large table with a computer 

and a stack of papers on it. At the first glance, Lauren did not see anyone in the study, and when she looked closely, she saw Charlie. 

It turned out that he was blocked by the curtains. Charlie sat on the bay window, almost invisible in the dark curtains. Lauren 

walked over. 

There was a solid wooden chair on the ground, and Charlie sat on the bay window, with his legs folded. From Lauren’s perspective, she could see the bruises on his toes. Lauren guessed that maybe he was smashed by the chair accidentally. 

“Are you all right?” Lauren bent down in front of Charlie and asked with concern. 

Charlie now realized that there was a person in his study. He was a little surprised and then looked up at her. Charlie said to 

Lauren. “Sorry to disturb you.” 

He was very polite and soft, completely different from the previous days. It seemed that he had changed a lot. 

Seeing that Charlie was injured, she was worried about him. 

“Do you feel alright? Do you need me to send you to the hospital?” Lauren asked. 

Charlie shook his head and said, “Thank you for your caring. I will apply the medicine later by myself.” 

“I want to know if there is anything that I can help.” Lauren asked. 

Charlie lowered his head, but in fact, he was smiling. There was a hint of apology in his expression and he said, “I should have 

said sorry to you on that day.” 

Lauren raised her head with confusion, but she still looked gorgeous, which made Charlie want to pull her closer and kiss her 

fiercely. 

Charlie turned his head because he thought he would lose control if he kept looking at Lauren who was so beautiful. Then he 

said, “I am sorry for what I did a few days ago.” 

Now Lauren understood. 

Charlie explained, “There were many women trying to approach me through Leo because they knew Leo was my son and he was very important to me. So I was not very polite to you that day. I am sorry.”
