Upon hearing Nelson's words, Brandon's expression remained calm, seemingly unaffected by anything Nelson said. Or rather, to be precise, the person Nelson mentioned had absolutely no impact on Brandon. That person was even more unfamiliar to Brandon than a complete stranger.
Noticing Brandon's composed demeanor, Nelson refrained from further remarks about Olive. The topic regarding her had vanished from Brandon's life, and he had no intention of reopening it.
Since he returned to Viteto, Brandon hadn't thought of seeing Olive. His visit was primarily to handle matters at the construction site. However, Nelson, who was a soft-hearted person, organized a get-together and invited Brandon without mentioning that Olive would also be present.
When Olive entered the room with Nelson, Brandon's face immediately tightened with displeasure, though he managed to maintain his composure and didn't storm out.
"Hey, Brandon, it's been a while," Olive said, approaching him hesitantly.
Brandon simply nodded in response.
Seeing the awkward atmosphere, Nelson quickly changed the subject, suggesting they order something to eat while they waited for Kason and the others to arrive.
Nelson took the opportunity to go outside, intending to talk to Brandon about Olive. However, Brandon's phone rang just as Nelson stepped out. He checked the caller ID and excused himself to answer the call.
Left alone with Olive, Nelson saw her looking upset and spoke softly, "Olive, do you think he still resents you?"
Olive's voice was weak as she replied, "Nelson, I've always wondered about one thing."
Curious, Nelson looked at her, "What is it?"
"Do you think Brandon truly loved me back then? Why did he let me leave Viteto?" she asked, her voice sincere.
Nelson was aware of their past, but he couldn't understand why Brandon had tried so hard to keep Olive, yet she still chose to leave for another country.
Taking a moment to gather her thoughts, Olive softly explained, "At that time, Brandon was focused on building his career. If I stayed, he would have been distracted, and repeated failures would have made him feel guilty. He didn't want me to witness his struggle and lose faith in himself. So, I left, hoping he would feel less burdened and find motivation."
Olive's genuine explanation moved Nelson. "I never thought you did it for Brandon's sake," he murmured.
Olive looked at Nelson, "Please don't tell him what I said. I don't want to burden him with guilt. I heard his girlfriend is pregnant."
Nelson furrowed his brows and couldn't help but comfort her, "You're always like this, so considerate."
