Lorraine nodded in agreement, saying, "I think so too."
Cooperating, Lorraine nodded and walked over to take a seat beside Reed. She turned her head and greeted Reed, "Hello, I'm Lorraine."
Reed smiled at Lorraine and replied, "Hello."
Allan turned his head and said, "Miss Kipling, my daughter Reed is a bit timid. Would you mind keeping her company for a while?"
Lorraine made an "ok" gesture, assuring him, "No worries."
After Haider took his seat, he didn't glance towards Lorraine's direction anymore.
The group of people chatted and enjoyed themselves until the early morning before dispersing.
Allan had consumed quite a bit of alcohol, but Aurora was still holding onto Reed's hand, protecting her like a treasure. "You guys go on, we'll take a cab back."
Evan was quite intoxicated. "I'll find a nearby hotel to sleep in. You all go ahead."
Haider instructed Eduard to take Evan to a hotel after he had helped him upstairs.
With everyone settled, Haider finally looked towards Lorraine, who was standing quietly by the side.
"Come here," he beckoned with a raised hand.
For some reason, the way Haider beckoned Lorraine made her feel like he was calling a little dog. After all, she was about to break her legs-wasn't he treating her like a dog?
Lorraine stood still for a while before walking towards Haider.
When she was about three steps away from Haider, Lorraine stopped and looked at him. She called his name with both his first and last names, "Haider."
Haider acknowledged with a sound, closing the gap between them. "Lorraine, welcome home."
Lorraine had something to say, but Haider's words held her back.
The two of them just stared at each other up close, and this time, neither seemed inclined to break the silence.
Time passed second by second, and eventually, Lorraine couldn't hold it anymore. She averted her gaze first and said softly, "I need to go back."
Just as Lorraine spoke, Haider reached out and grabbed her wrist, his voice deep, "Go where?"
Lorraine turned to look at him, her expression questioning. "Where can I go? Back to the hotel."
After immigrating, the Kipling family had sold most of their houses in Manches City. Now that Lorraine was back, she didn't have a place to stay.
The apartment she rented was temporarily unavailable until the landlord returned from out of town tomorrow. Hence, Lorraine had no choice but to stay at a hotel for these few days.
"You're staying at a hotel?" Haider seemed somewhat surprised.
Lorraine nodded and replied, "Otherwise, should I sleep on the street?"
Haider's gaze lingered on Lorraine for a few seconds before he stood up and gestured towards the parking area. "Stay at my place tonight. I'll have someone bring your things over later."
"I don't want to!" Lorraine rejected Haider's suggestion without a second thought.
However, Haider didn't leave her any room for negotiation. His tone carried a hint of warning, "Lorraine, you know what kind of person I am. Don't test my patience. In Manches City, you're no match for me."
A retort was on the tip of Lorraine's tongue, but after a second thought, she realized Haider's words held some truth. In Manches City, she really wasn't a match for Haider.
With Haider's words in mind, she would indeed find it difficult to navigate Manches City.
So, Lorraine was pragmatic and replied with a hint of helplessness, "You said you gave me your patience, but I haven't seen any signs of patience from you!"
Haider chuckled softly, reaching out and pulling Lorraine closer. "Lorraine, my behavior depends on how you act. Got it?"
