Chapter 657: How are you responsible? By marrying someone?

Iris responded, "What's going on?"
"Well, not long after the incident this afternoon, someone came to us and offered us money to make a false statement," the person on the phone explained in detail.
Upon hearing this, Iris immediately furrowed her brow and asked, "What did you say?"
"Our people here are familiar with you. Besides, we would never do something like that. So I just wanted to give you a heads up so that you don't get taken advantage of," the person continued.
"Okay, thank you. I'll take care of it. Please tell them thank you for me," Iris replied.
"It's no big deal. As long as that little girl is okay!" The conversation ended after a few more exchanges.
As soon as she hung up the phone, Old Mr. Duncan called her.
Iris knew it wouldn't be long before he found out about what had happened since Anna was taken away by police right away.
Mr. Johnson couldn't find any benefit from him and would definitely contact Old Mr. Duncan instead.
Iris answered the phone and said: "Grandpa."
"How is she? Is she okay?" The tone of Old Mr. Duncan's voice sounded normal without any unusual emotions or tones in his voice
"She's out of danger now." Iris replied with an affirmative sound
"The Johnson family contacted me about this matter." Old Mr. Duncan sighed deeply,
"They also came to see me but I refused."
"This incident victimized that little girl; You don't have any standing in this matter; moreover, you also bear some responsibility for it."
"I know, I will take responsibility."
"How will you take responsibility? Marry her?"Old Mr. Duncan asked over the phone
Iris knew that recently he had been eager for her to settle down herself but didn't expect him to bring up this issue at such a time. She quickly spoke up:"Please don't mess around. Grandpa, the little girl belongs to Lawrence family."
When Old Mr. Duncan heard what Iris said , he was somewhat surprised: "The Lawrences?"
"Yes, Zane's sister."
Old Mr. Duncan knew there was a daughter in Lawrence family, and then asked: "Dylan's daughter?"
"No, it's Anika, the daughter they raised outside before," Iris explainedBefore, the Old Mr. Duncan had heard some things about the Lawrence family. Hearing Iris speak, he quickly caught on and said, "I saw that girl once before and she seemed pretty good. Why don't you..."
"Grandfather," Iris interrupted before the Old Mr. Duncan could finish his sentence. "Do you think it's appropriate to bring up this topic now? Miss Lawrence is still in the hospital and it's not a good time to mention this."
The Old Mr. Duncan cleared his throat lightly, "Okay, I didn't consider that when I spoke."
After a pause, he continued to ask Iris: "Are you at the hospital now?"
"Yes," replied Iris.
"This whole thing happened because of you after all," said the Old Mr. Duncan with concern in his voice. "Take care of her over there and I'll come see her tomorrow morning."
Iris wanted to say there was no need for him to come but stopped herself mid-sentence and instead said: "Okay, get some rest early."
Hanging up the phone, Iris turned around and entered Anika's hospital room.
Although Anika was awake now, her face still looked pale as she smiled at Iris when she came in.
"How are you feeling?" asked Iris as she nodded towards Anika.
"I'm fine," replied Anika softly.
In reality though her wound still hurt somewhat; however Anika was used to keeping everything inside so as not to worry anyone including Zane who cared deeply for her well-being.
Anika didn't want anyone worrying about her so even if it hurt a little bit right then; she tried not showing any signs of discomfort on her face which made it seem like everything was okay or even better than expected under these circumstances.
"You should go eat something first," Yanis suggested seeing Zane wasn't going to say anything anytime soon while looking towards Iris who nodded silently in agreement after finishing their meal together earlier on without saying much else afterwards either way since they were both lost deep in thought thinking about what had just happened recently between them all here today with each other again like old times back then long ago...
Yanis knew that tonight wasn't possible for iris returning home yet so he didn't push too hard either way knowing how stubbornly independent iris can be sometimes especially when it comes down taking care of those close around us all here together again like old times back then long ago...
When Myles & Bonnie were getting ready leave Yanis looked over at Zane asking quietly "Should we head out too?"
Zane furrowed his brow slightly upon hearing Yanis' words but ultimately decided against leaving saying firmly "Let Myles take care of sending you home safely tonight instead."
It was clear that Zane had no intention of leaving anytime soon from where he stood beside an unconscious an injured anikas bedside watching over every breath taken by one whom meant more than anything else alive within this world itself...
Looking towards where iris sat quietly nearby listening intently without saying much else besides nodding along silently agreeing with what everyone has been discussing amongst themselves thus far today while trying their bests taking care each other during these difficult times ahead together once more just like old times back then long ago... No matter what anyone said, Zane wouldn't let Iris stay alone with Yanis. Even though Iris had gradually lost interest in Yanis, Zane was still reluctant. In the end, at Anika's request, Iris and Zane left first and left Yanis behind to accompany her.
Yanis was worried that Zane and Iris would fight if they went out together, so he insisted on sending Zane downstairs. After watching him drive away, Yanis finally felt relieved.
After Zane left, Yanis turned to look at Iris standing beside him. "Zane said some unpleasant things. Don't take them to heart," Yanis whispered.
Hearing this, Iris looked up at Yanis and said softly: "I know."
After a slight pause, she continued: "I'm sorry for causing trouble for you and Anika."
Yanis knew that she was referring to Anna's situation. "It has nothing to do with you; don't think too much about it," he reassured her.
Iris wanted to say something else but found that the words seemed powerless when they reached her lips. In the end, she swallowed them back down again.
The two of them chatted outside the hospital for a while before leaving separately.
When Yanis returned to the ward later on, a nurse was taking Anika's temperature. "If there is anything uncomfortable or painful please call me anytime; we have doctors on duty all night," she told Anika.
Anika nodded in agreement: "Okay."
"How are you feeling? Is there any discomfort?" asked Yanis as he approached her bed.
Anika replied softly: "No."
Yanis helped pull up her blanket before sitting down on a nearby chair.
"Sister-in-law!" Suddenly Anika called out his name loudly.
Yanish looked over at her curiously: "Hmm?"
"Iris... does he feel guilty?" asked Anika hesitantly.
"Iris is quite gentlemanly; I'm sure he feels guilty about today's events." explained Yannis calmly."He thinks it's his responsibility."
Anxious now after hearing this news from Yannis , Anikia quickly responded:" I don't blame him nor do I think it's his fault."
Yannis gently patted Anikia's hand reassuringly:"I know but that's how he feels inside."
Taking a deep breath , Anikia remembered something else suddenly :"Brother-in-law , how is the person who hit me doing now? Do you know?"
